DEB VANGELLOW is the Director of Instruction at Sweetwater Country Club in Houston, Texas.  A Class “A” member of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), Deb holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Science Degree in Health/Physical Education/Coaching and Educational Psychology/Leadership from the University of Northern Iowa and Miami (Ohio) University respectively.

 

Deb coached Division I collegiate golf and led the American Junior Golf Team that traveled to Europe as part of the International Sport for Understanding Program.  She has worked with the Japanese corporate sponsored Kathy Whitworth Golf Academy (TX), the Heritage School of Golf (TX), the NIKE Junior Golf Camp at Pebble Beach (CA), Pine Forest CC (TX), Camp Olympia Junior Golf Academy (TX) and at Rice University (TX) teaching golf classes. 

 

Deb writes a regular golf instruction column for Houston Links and Tee Time Magazines and has contributed to the Houston Chronicle Golf Page, Golf Digest, Golf for Women, Women’s World of Golf, Texas Golfer, and Golf Illustrated magazines.  Deb was the 2002 LPGA Central Section Teacher of The Year, is listed as one of the “Top 50” teachers in the country by Golf For Women Magazine, and is one of GOLF and Golf Digest Magazine’s top regional teachers.  She is a contributing author to the top-selling golf books "Chicken Soup For The Woman Golfer's Soul" and  Donald Trump's "The Best Golf Advice I Ever Received."  Deb also serves as the female online "Professor" for Golf Illustrated Magazine.  Her equipment sponsor is Cobra Golf and her apparel sponsor is Bette and Court.

 

Deb has learned from and worked with many of the top instructors in the country including Betsy Cullen, Charlie Epps, Mark Steinbauer, Jackson Bradley, Kathy Whitworth, Craig Harmon, and the late PGA Long Drive Champion/Kinesiologist Mike Austin, her longtime teacher. 

 

In addition to teaching men, women, senior, and junior golfers of all skill levels individually and in groups, Deb is on the faculty for the LPGA National Education Program, the industry-leading national training curriculum for golf instruction.  A busy golf educator who gives 2000+ lessons each year, Deb believes in teaching the whole game to the whole person.  Her philosophy of teaching is wellness based, encompassing mind/body/spirit ideals.
