So, I'm sitting here watching C-SPAN (I only get 10 channels, gimme a break), and they're running through campaign events from all the Democratic candidates, what with the Iowa caucuses being tomrorrow. And, y'know, no matter what happens, I'm still voting Democratic in November (that should be obvious at this point), but I still say... even watching the campaigns evolved, and hearing things I like from all the candidates, Howard Dean still seems like the only human being up there. The rest of them seem so Washington-scripted, with their helmet heads and Clinton-style thumb-pointing and even their adopted fiery speak against the failures of the administration. I'm sick of politicians. I don't believe them. But I believe Howard Dean.
Besides that, at the Dean thing with Carter in Georgia, the Deanies were all sorts o' rowdy and fun at the press conference. And that's how I feel when I go to Dean things, I feel riled up and ready to go. Not only that, but Dean actually takes a second and recognizes it and encourages it. (I'm currently snoring through Gephardt's speech to the unions.) At a Dean event I went to in September, he was going on in about the failures of the Bush administration, and in the middle of it, someone yelled out, "F*** Bush!"
Dean paused mid-sentence, and looked hard out at the audience. Then he smiled and said, "God, it's great to be back in New York." Woohoo!

And I quote:"This country must not fear the influence of faith in the future of this country. We must welcome faith in order to make America a better place," said the president, who is a regular church-goer. The one thing he doesn't want us to be afraid of is the his church influence?!

Irritating things on my mind, because it's 8° -- yes, that's eight degrees -- outside.
No smoking in bars in California = expected and tolerable. No smoking in bars in the dead of friggin' winter in NYC = intolerable and ludicrous.
I'm staying home.
I went to rent movies the other nite. Most of the time I rent at Two Boots or Kim's Video, both on Avenue A, because they have the widest variety of indie and weird things. But! Both of them have the same organizational structure and it drives me a little nuts. Within almost all their sections, they sort everything under categories like "directors" or "actors." There's indie actor sections for Parker Posey, Steve Buscemi, etc. Which is cool if you're browsing, but you always have to ask for the movie if you're looking for something specific. The other night, I was looking for "Rushmore," and it was under "indie" and then "Wes Anderson." Grrrr. I guess the bonus for the video store was that I ended up renting "Royal Tenenbaums" because they were together. So, they make more money, but I get irritated. Which is fine, in the end, I guess. It's better than Blockbuster. Overpriced and understocked.
OK, I'm stepping off the box now. Promise.
