Many spiritual traditions use animals as totems. Among many clans, tribes, and peoples an animal or natural object is considered to be related and is given as a symbol of that persons clan, tribe, personality, inner spirit or protector. Continuing, as in the past, totems are used to distinguish different families, clans, and personal traits that individuals feel are related to themselves or others.
