Veil Nebula

        Description:

The Veil Nebula is the remnant of a supernova explosion that took place an estimated 30,000 to 40,000 years ago.  The nebulosity pictured here is located in the constellation Cygnus and continues to expand as a result of the original explosion and is the only remaining visual remnant of the original star.

Imaged at:                                Grandview Campground, Inyo National Forest, California;
                                                Elevation - 8500 feet

Equipment:                               Optics - Takahashi E-160 at f/3.3,
                                                Mount - Losmandy G-11 with SkyWalker Servo drive,
                                                Camera - Nikon FM-2,
                                                Focal Reducer/Field Flattener - none,
                                                Filter - none,

Film:                                         Kodak E200, push processed 1 stop,

Exposure Information:              July 7, 2002
                                                Average of four 40 minute exposures,
                                                Guided with the SBIG STV,

Image Processing Software:      Image registration and combination - Registar; Processing - Photoshop 7.
