The
National Assembly in 2003 in Here in DC
May 2003 - Washington DC. Now less than two months away!
The DCAAA, along with Province 27, will be
hosting the trienneil National Assembly here in Washington DC.
The Assembly will be held at the Omni Shoreham
Hotel in Washington, DC from July 16-20, 2002.
We are looking for alumni to get involved in
supporting the week of the Assembly. We would people to help greet people
at the airports, to help man the registration booths, to help set up the
conference rooms, to break down the rooms, to act as DC area experts (what
are the good restaurants are, best tours, things to do, etc..) If you are
interested in helping e-mail Dave Groomes at dgroomes@yahoo.com.
We also are encouraging as many alumni as
possible to attend this Assembly. There will be many alumni issues that
will be brought up at the assembly and we would like to show how valuable
and involved the fraternities alumni can be.

Dues
due June 1st, now $60
March 2003- The Association is required to submit its annual
report by June 1st – and in order to do so on time, we must have
your $60 dues by May 15th. What does this go for?
$25 goes to the national fraternity, and it
assures you of receiving the next two issues of the Sinfonian. It also
assures that your address is current with the National Headquarters.
$10 goes to Province 27 in the form of
Province dues. Among other things, Province dues help support the Province
Alumni Coordinator, fostering alumni contact throughout Province 27.
$25 goes to the Association to pay for events,
ritual equiptment and mailings to the brotherhood in the area. (The local
Association dues were voted on and approved by the brotherhood at the March
2003 meeting)
Checks should be made out to DCAAA, and can be
paid at any function, or sent to the Association Treasurer, Terry Longstreth.

Looking
Ahead: June 21st
With the May meeting over, the next business
meeting and song rehearsal will be on Saturday, May 21st at 6pm
at Dave Rosenmarke’s Arlington office.
May
18th meeting report
The May 18th meeting was attended
by nine brothers, with all the executive committee present, plus Jim McCully,
Dave Montouri, Dave Rosenmarkle and Shannon Cloman. The alumni t-shirts
were unveiled to the Association, along with a report that $120 had been
collected already in sales, but that Jeff Hoffman had laid out the initial cost
of the inventory and had not yet been re-imbursed.
The shirts, along with other alumni themed
items, can be found at:

3rd
Alumni Retreat Review:
Shortly before the May meeting of the
Association was the 3rd Northeast Alumni Issues retreat, hosted
by PG-21 and National Vice President Robb Whitmoyer at the Cole Harris Gun
Club west of Shippensburg, Pa.
Association members Les Wright, Jake Muha,
Jeff Hoffman, Jeff Schaefer and Rob McKeever attended the retreat, along
with Philadelphia represented by Ryan Dumont and Mitch Berger, Rich Legon
as Province 1 alumnus-at-large (New York City area) and Don Cramer as
Province 21 alumnus-at-large (Harrisburg Pa), as well as Derek Danielson,
PG-27.
Major progress from this retreat was a PAC
resolution, background supporting the PAC/FAQ, and a beginning on revising
the Alumni Association packet (PDF on Lyrecrest website) as well as the
Alumni Secretary manual.
The Association’s alumni T-shirts were unveiled
for the first time, to much acclaim.
If you are interested in what the group has
been working on, click here
for a copy of the alumni report that developed at the January retreat.
The next retreat will be in the fall, after
the assembly, as a “what do we do from here” assessment and debriefing of
what was accomplished, and what still needs to be done.
Email Jeff Hoffman, Deputy PG-27 and
Association Secretary at jeffecu@aol.com
for more information on the T-shirts

Interested
in Singing?
Several members of the Association have
expressed an interest to get together to rehearse doo-wop tunes. As an
Association, we tend to be Bass-heavy, but all voice parts welcome.
We have a few arrangements, but are always looking for others.
There is also interest in performing some TTBB
choral music as well. Look for an informal rehearsal at the March
meeting, and further details from there. In the meantime, email Nels
Olson at nels_olson@yahoo.com for
more info or to express interest.
6th
Annual picnic right around the corner…
Make your plans now to journey to Washington,
Virginia (Rappahannock County) to the home of Col. John R. Bourgeois, USMC
(Ret). By far the Association’s
most popular and well-attended event, it figures to be just as good this
year as a time to relax after the assembly.
The Colonel is well known for his Jumbalaya,
and the traditional pot-luck and burgers and dogs on the grill will be on
the menu. Spouses & significant
others invited and encouraged to attend.
Volleyball/Badmitton awaits, as does a short
business session to take nominations for 2003-2004 officers, in advance of
the September elections meeting.
What to bring is up to you, from soda to beer
to wine, and snacks and side dishes (Hey, Shannon, how about your taco
dip!)
More details as time rolls nearer, including
exact weekend and main contact info. Nels is working on the date, and we
should have it set soon. In the
meantime, contact Rob McKeever for
more information.
Want
to hold office?
Interested in an officer position? The offices
up for election are Vice President (becomes President after expiration of 1
year term), Treasurer, Secretary, and Memebr-at-Large. Also available are
the appointed offices of Music Director, Events Coordinator, and Master of
Ceremonies.
Nominations will be taken both at the August
Picnic and at the September election meeting.
