Consider the photo you see above. Familiar isn't it? Yes, it's
a QWERTY keyboard... not all that different from the keyboard under your
fingers on your computer today. BUT... the one you see in the picture is
122 YEARS OLD!
The QWERTY keyboard, believe it or not, was present on the
very First Typewriter... the Sholes & Glidden, made by E. Remington
& Sons (best known for their guns) beginning in 1874.

Despite more than a century of efforts to dislodge it... QWERTY survives.
It is the keyboard people LOVE to hate, but it is as
much a cultural standard as the Roman alphabet, the steering wheel, the
4x3 TV screen.
It is beautifully Baroque, a paragon of inefficiency, intriguingly bizarre.
How could a scientifically-conceived made-to-be-perfect keyboard possibly
be more appealing?
