Coach Pike Comments:

What an outstanding day! TWO state records. State Champions in 3 events. Abram's four place finish in the 100m dash set a new school record(10.7 hand timed conversion). Waverly was in the lead for most of day forcing Harrison and East Lansing to score 1st and third in the last event to knock Waverly out of contention for a state team trophy. Abram, Mike, and Terry picked a great way to cap off an oustanding senior year, and junior Justin Boyd demonstrated his readiness to taking a leadership role next year. Mike established the tone for the day by breaking the state record on his first jump in the first event of the day. In the sprints, Abram's 10.9/10.8/10.7 series in the 100m were the three fastest races ever run by a Waverly athlete. Our other entries in the sprints ran very well but didn't qualify for the final heat. For example, Mike ran 22.5, only 0.1 slower than his school record time, in his preliminary heat, but finished 5th and did not advance. Their confidence never wavered as our relays took control of the competition and finished the season as undefeated state champions in both the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. Once again, handoffs made the differences as every exchange moved us further ahead of the field.
