Coach Pike Comments:

It was the best of times. It was the worst of times. Injuries during the meet took out distance runners Ryan Cotton and Jimmy Schneidewind along with sprinters Terry Tyson, Justin Boyd, and Josh Carr. Fortunately, I was pleased with the way our younger athletes stepped up to fill in the voids. Our 400m relay hobbled their way to a first place finish, while freshman Dante Dunn filled in for Justin Boyd to lead off for the gold medal 800m relay. Dante also made the finals of the 200m dash. Freshmen Carlos Duncan, Jeremy Jones, and Adam Graddick teamed with Ben Freeman to fight their way to a sixth place finish in the 1600m Relay. Andrew Pike continued his steady improvement in the distance races with his 11:10 in the two mile run. In the field events, Chris Pike, took third in the discus with a toss of 135-7, taking him to number one on the top ten list since 1990. Rex Wilkes set a PR in the 300m hurdles and grabbed 4th in the vault. The highlight of the meet was the long jump. Abram McCoy's second place 20-03 was a foot farther than the rest of the competition, but Michael Bailey's winning jump was the longest jump I've personally witnessed in over 20 years of coaching. Michael's 23-0 jump, a full 7 inches longer than his state championship jump last year, crushed both the school and meet records.
