Coach Pike Comments:
Our fifth place finish out of 16 teams, only three points
out of third, was our best finish here in a number of years.
We outperformed six other teams from our regional and only Lowell
who outscored us by a single point.
Once again our sprinters have done an outstanding job. Our
first place 400 relay ran their third consecutive race faster
than the automatic state qualifier, this time with Mike Adams
teaming up with Freddie Kirkland, Dante Adams, and Mike Bailey.
They repeated another gold medal performance in the Sprint Medley
with an outstanding 50.4 split in the 400 leg by Michael Bailey.
Bailey teamed up with Jason Uslan to take the gold in the long
jump. The 4x400 and 4x200 relays also medaled, posting Top Ten
performances. This may prove to be one of the best groups of
400m sprint groups in many years as Michael Bailey and Clevon
Robertson(53.0 split) continue to develop and our young freshman
sprinters like Mike and Dante Adams mature. Our dIstance kids
are gradually returning to full health, but our inability to
train and race, along with our inexperience are affecting our
performance right now. They keep inproving due in part to great
leadership from senior Justin Sheehan. Newcomer Melvin White
has put forth some gritty, courageous performances in the 800
that will help get us back to full strength.
