Ride Diary

Yesterday I left my bike on the centerstand long enough to change the oil, adjust the chain slack and clean the chain. Unfortunately it was also long enough for a hit and run BDC to knock it off the centerstand. Fortunately I had just put the cover on in anticipation of intermittent rain showers and my neighbor's car broke the fall. I also habitually leave the sidestand down whenever the bike's on the centerstand.

Damage:

  • Scuffed right side fairing where BDC bumper made contact. (I can probably live with that since the plastic didn't crack.)
  • Bent left side mirror (the mirror bore the brunt of the fall; it hit the car hood and made a nice dent) Perfect excuse to upgrade to Y2K mirrors, a small consolation. The under-fairing frame that carries the mirror doesn't seem to be tweaked or anything but I need to check more closely.
  • Bent right side footpeg (guess they made contact there too.)
  • Bent and cracked right side footpeg holder (this casting is probably an expensive little bugger)

    Update: 10/19/01

Looks like the folks at Service Honda are going to take care of me, for a lot less than I expected. I also picked up an OEM mirror on eBay, so I'm going to forego the Y2K mirrors for now.
