There must be other people, like
Daymond and I, looking for information on the process of
obtaining a K-1 Visa (in order to marry their U.S.
fiancé(e) and reside in the United States). That's the
purpose of this site; to assist others in gathering
information, and to relate our experience as we go through getting mine.
I am from Ontario,Canada; Daymond is from
California, USA. We met when Daymond came to Toronto on a work contract.
By the time his contract ended we were living together and I went to California with him.
As a Canadian I was allowed to stay there for 6 months then had to leave. I returned to Canada
and have been staying with my mom while I waited for my divorce and, after that, to wait for my visa.
We started our K-1 process on June 12, 1998. See "Our Experience"
for our current status.
There's a lot of
information on the net about K-1 Visa's, some of which is provided by
couples who've put pages up regarding their experience in
obtaining a fiancé(e) visa...I've found these to be
valuable sources (See "Resources"). I've also added some info on how and where I obtained documents here in Canada
that I needed for the I-129f and the interview (See "Our Experience").
I AM NOT
A LAWYER, nor am I involved in any capacity with the
legal profession...neither is my fiancé, Daymond. This
is not legal advice. I am simply an individual deeply
in love with a wonderful man who happens to be American.
This site's only purpose is to share our experience as
we're going through it and to pass along the resources we
found useful. I will be keeping this updated as our
application progresses.
Please
remember that this site is only for general reference
purposes. Do your own research...read all you can
find...contact the relevant government agencies with any
questions, or have a consultation with an immigration
attorney (make sure you consult with one who SPECIALIZES in US immigration law, particularly
K-1 Visa's.)....above all follow the rules and guidelines
specified by the INS!...except to perhaps give them more info then they ask for.
Particularly in regards to 'proof of relationship'.
One more
thing...to all of you couples who, like us, are waiting
to be together again and have such wonderful hopes and
dreams for your future...we both wish you the best and
hope that your quest to be together will be a short and
easy one.
