September 17, 2008 Welcome Friends!
Dear friends, Our sweet baby girl is now 3 years old. I can't believe how time has flown. She is a very spirited (and busy) child! Some days I can't get over how smart she is, or the way she can combine words into well-thought out sentences and questions (oh, the questions!!!) We have some lively conversations these days. She loves all different kinds of animals, and some of her favorite places to go visit are the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk, the Virginia Living Museum, Virginia Aquarium in VA Beach, and Bluebird Gap Farm. She hasn't met a stranger yet, but has new friends wherever we go.
If you haven't heard by now, David & I are finally expecting another long-awaited baby this coming February (2009) after a crushing 12 week loss in January of this past year. We couldn't be more excited for this new little one to join our little family. Everything is going well, and hopefully we will know the gender at the end of this month. Davalyn has been so excited about the baby growing in mommy's belly, and I was so happy to be able to share a "first kick" with Davalyn on Sunday night this past week. She got a huge surprised look on her face, and then giggled and giggled.
Our other "baby," our rescued great dane Ginger, is now four years old. She's a little over 120 lbs. When she first came to us as a seven month old puppy, she was severely underweight & had no house manners at all. She graduated from puppy school and has made a good transition to life with a fast-moving toddler. She seems very curious about and protective of Davalyn. Ginger is Davalyn's best friend. Of course, it doesn't hurt that Davalyn is constantly trying to feed Ginger special treats like Cheerios, Goldfish crackers and meat sticks. Make sure you look at Ginger's web page; the link is at the top of this page.
My husband David and I have made our home in Hampton, Virginia, where I was born & have spent most of my life. I am currently teaching with Newport News Public Schools in their Program for Educating Exceptional Preschoolers (PEEP) for my third year. I am still teaching preschoolers with special needs, just like I did in Hampton for so long. David is also still teaching. After switching from 5th grade to 8th grade, David is now working as an Instructional Technology Resource Teacher (ITRT.) His primary duty is to teach the teachers in his buildings how to use and integrate the technology available to them in their instruction. David is also a captain in the Army Reserves. I am proud of his service to our country. Thanks to all of my friends who offered their support while he was away. Your support & prayers meant so much to us.
One of my hobbies is sewing ring-style baby carriers. I have made lots for myself and as gifts to friends. I am currently offering some for sale locally and through eBay.com,, Etsy.com, and accepting custom requests when time allows. Let me know if there's something I can do for you! Click on the link at the top of the page for more information.

I am an active member of Hampton Christian Church, where I am currently serving as a deaconess. During my summer vacation, I enjoy volunteer counseling Special Camp at Craig Springs Camp & Conference Center. (Of course, this year, I will be a little busy with our baby & won't be going, but hopefully next year!) The Craig Springs facility is owned & operated by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Virginia. Special Camp is an opportunity for teens & adults with developmental disabilities or other cognitive impairments to enjoy a Christian camping experience in a rustic setting.
