If ever there is a tomorrow when we're not together, there's something you must remember: You are braver than you believe and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is: Even if we're apart, I'll always be with you.

October 15, 2004

Sadly, Radar has gone to wait for us at the Rainbow Bridge this morning at the age of nine. He died suddenly with little warning of heart failure. Our hearts are broken. We enjoyed nearly three years with our beloved "furry baby." David & I were lucky to have been truly loved unconditionally by one of God's "Gentle Giants" and to have been able to give that love back in return. He is greatly missed.

Radar was our beloved great dane and "furry baby". We adopted Radar in April of 2002 from the Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League (MAGDRL.) He joyously pranced into our home & into our hearts. He loved to be the center of attention, take walks around the neighborhood, go for a car ride, and take long naps on "his couch" or in his favorite sunny spots. My parents jokingly (and with some degree of hope) referred to him as the "granddog," since there were no grandchildren at the time. He was spoiled beyond belief ...he was the only dog I've ever known to have his own twin size bed in his "parent's" bedroom. (This was in addition to his other two beds AND the couch in other rooms of the house!) When company came, he would stand beside HIS couch & wait for friends to move over & make room. If they didn't, too bad. He just sat on them! It was his couch & he had offered to share. :) Always looking for something to counter-surf, he benefitted from many meals inadvertantly placed in his reach (apple pie, bread, a hamburger, and so many others....) During his last week, he found a steak left on the counter. How he enjoyed that snack! My favorite memory though, is coming home to the remains of my sister's bridal shower cake. I had baked it and placed it in the closet to cool. He somehow managed to open the doors of the closet & eat the whole thing before I returned home. How he managed to muster a completely guilt-free "who me" look is beyond belief, as the crumbs & cake pans littered the carpet. He made us smile, he made us laugh, he comforted us, he protected us, and yes, occasionally he made us hopping mad. He loved us, and we loved him just as much & more. He is truly missed.
