The Friday Flyer Bicycle Ride

During Daylight Savings Time, (and unless I'm out of town or there isn't enough daylight for a reasonable ride), I lead the Friday Flyer. All who can manage the pace are welcome to attend. A map of the route is below; we go clockwise around the loop. The ride leaves from the south west parking lot of the Fossil Ridge High School at 5400 Ziegler Road in Fort Collins. It normally starts at 5:30pm. This ride is a B ride, meaning that the pace should be 15-17 mph, although if everyone present is willing and able, we will go faster. If you would like to ride faster, you're welcome to join us. You may off the front at some point during the ride. Some faster riders will regroup with the rest of us at the corner of CO257 and CO14, or at the entrance to the neighborhood just before CR5 on CO392 (at the top of the hill). As ride leader, I'll stay with anyone who wants to ride at the advertised B pace. Note that this is often what I prefer, so it's not a hardship on me. Also, while I can control the pace when I'm leading the ride, those who are present will need to control the pace to follow these guidelines when I'm not there.

Riders should carry sufficient food, and water, a patch kit, tools, and a pump or CO2. There is a group established for this ride on VeloCal.Org. I encourage all regular participants to sign up for that group since it allows easy communication on the status of the ride.

In general, we use the same route every night. That's predictable, and I find there's some value in doing the same route on a regular basis. However, when daylight gets shorter and sometimes as the weather dictates, we may use an alternate route, usually one that I cook up on the spot.

As an experiment, I made a Google Map of the route too. Check it out!
