Science Fair
David worked with other IEEE Section members to serve as judges at school and regional Science Fairs. The Science
Fair program is well established nation wide and is one of the many science education programs accepted by science teachers.
Science Olympiad
David and other section members served as a judges and supported Science Olympiad events across the country. He
was given the honorary title of "Honorary Launch Director of the Russian Space Agency" by the director of the agency
who's team assisted him in running the "Pop Bottle Rocket" event at the Science Olympiad sponsored by the University
of Louisiana at Lafayette and the IEEE Lafayette section.
Scouting Electrical, Electronic and Computer Merit Badge Clinics
David organized the members of the Lafayette Section and the staff of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette EECE department
to host several merit badge clinics. Scout troups across the state were invited to attend the clinics to earn merit
badges in electricity, electronics and computer science. The clinics were well received and attended.
National Engineers Week, Future City Competition
David was instrumental in bringing the National Engineers Week, Future City Competition to Louisiana schools and served
as the state coordinator from 1996 through 2000. The schools winning the Louisiana competition have always placed well
in the national competition. A Louisiana school has won the national competition in Washington, DC twice since
1996. St. Thomas More school from Baton Rouge is the 2005 National Engineers Week, Future City Competition winner.
He was also instrumental is bringing the Future City Competition to other states in Region 5 through his service and
program support as the Region 5 Professional Activities Committee Chair.
