This group of bachelor sea lions spends the summer on this island. It offers a lot of "sunny" resting places (sunny being a very relative term) and a lot of available food. These lions were unsuccessful in getting harems of females and were chased away from the breeding areas by more dominant males. Some of these animals are young males who may compete more successfully for breeding partners next year. Others are older males who have become less skilled fighters with their advancing years.
