Book/page design—Working in close coordination with many cartoonists and graphic artists—mostly recruited from Art Center College of Design—I acquired substantive experience and knowledge about the design elements of writing. I have also studied this subject in-depth for many years.

Platforms—Used PCs and Macs to develop documentation.

Application Software . . .

Drawing: As a believer in the power of simple flowcharts to convey information, I have made generous use of Visio, DrawPro, Paint, Adobe Illustrator, and the draw tools in Word.

Screen Capture: Have used Hi Jack, Snag it and Full Shot.

Word Processing: Have used both Word Perfect and, especially, various iterations of Microsoft Word (see Asset & Acquisition sample).

Desktop and Online Publishing: Have taught myself the rudiments of FrameMaker and RoboHelp

Core Skill—What many clients think I do best is to distill a complex disarray of information into a well-formatted, well-organized, and well written document.

People Skills— As outsiders—what we writing consultants usually are—we have to genuinely like and respect people and be able to quickly win the re-spect and good will of others. An important example has to do with subject matter experts (SMEs). Without winning their invaluable input, we have little hope of succeeding. In this regard, I have experienced almost no problems.
