Graphic.wpm is a WordPerfect macro that utilizes IrfanView (freeware Version 3.7 or later) and WordPerfect's command-line Graphic Conversion Utility GRAPHCNV.EXE (Version 1.1 or later, included with WordPerfect) to provide WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS with seamless compatibility for all modern image file types including gif, jpg, tiff, etc.  In operation, graphic.wpm creates two temporary graphic files (c:\wp51\graphic.pcx and c:\wp51\graphic.wpg) and calls three batch programs (c:\wp51\graphic1.bat, c:\wp51\graphic2.bat, and c:\wp51\graphic3.bat) in order to convert modern image files into native "wpg" files.

To install: (a) install IrfanView to its default location on the C:\ drive (C:\Program Files\IrfanView); and (b) unzip graphic.zip (containing the macro and batch files) into C:\WP51.

To use graphic.wpm from within WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS:  press Alt-F10, type "graphic" at the macro prompt, and press Enter.  An on-line help screen is provided.

To uninstall, delete the following files:  the graphic.zip file; c:\wp51\graphic.wpm;c:\wp51\graphic1.bat; c:\wp51\graphic2.bat; c:\wp51\graphic3.bat; c:\wp51\graphic.pcx; c:\wp51\graphic.wpg.

Limitations:  (a) Color is limited to 256 colors, regardless of the color depth of the source file; (b) The macro can accomodate long file names (and the tilde that occurs in the DOS version of long file names), but the length of the path and file name is currently limited to 34 characters); (c) The first time the macro is run, the message "File not found" may flash on the screen when the macro tries to delete temporary files that don't yet exist (c:\wp51\graphic.pcx and c:\wp51\graphic.wpg).  This mesage doesn't affect the conversion process.
