Brave New Beautiful World
©1998 Ukumbwa Sauti
We're on the verge of a brave new beautiful world (4X)
Can't pull no more wool down over our eyes
Can't sell us no more stack o' lies
No way, no time, no how, no why, no more, no more (you know why)
We're on the verge of a brave new beautiful world
And that's a good thing!
We're on the verge of a brave new beautiful world
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful....
They can't put us down
Can't crush the spirit into the ground
No way, no time, no how, no why, no more
no more, no more, no more (you know why)
We're on the verge, we're on the verge now
We're on the verge of a brave new beautiful world

What If They Gave A War and All The Children Came
©1998 Ukumbwa Sauti
They say they fight to protect them
Best intentions neglect them
(Leaving) Promises torn apart
They say they cant, then reject them
Theyve found no way to connect, then
Forsake their own steely hearts
What if they gave a war and all the children came?
Would you wanna fight no more? Would you feel the same?
Brave little ones laid low on the battle floor, young blood glory to proclaim
What if they gave a war and all the children, all the children came?
Young ears hear them sound the attack
And know theres no turning back
As you cowardly capitalize
Surgical strikes still leave big scars
With 5 stars dining (on) caviar
Young phoenix knows when to arise
What if they gave a war and all the children came?
(Came) Charging through your cannons roar, bold hearts turned into flame
Loves esprit de corps, they bring to truth acclaim
What if they gave a war and all the children, all the children, all the children came?
What if they gave a war and all the children came?
Feel the heat behind the smoking door, smell the rot of secret shame
They know how dead your dinosaur, growing weary to the game
What if they gave a war and all the children, all the children, all the children came?

We Know
©1998 Ukumbwa Sauti
They came upon their galleons
From a land across the sea
(They were) Missionary murderers
Hunting souls like you and me
Someday they'd steal a continent
Call it land of brave and free
Singing "They'll know we are Christians by our love"
With the Bible in the left hand
Another weapon in the right
They were on our shores by sunrise
We were in the hold by night
But at least there was this one thing
That the charlatans got right
They said "They'll know we are Christians by our love"
They invaded growing nations
They invaded sacred womb
Singing of eternal life
In harmonies of doom
Bringing salvation like the vultures
In an all-too-early tomb
Singing "They'll know we are Christians by our love"
Mercenary saints marched into Africa
Stormed into Asia, too
Pushing the people of America
Into Pacific blue
Still the children of Azania know today
What a church-going Voortrekker can do
While singing "They'll know we are Christians by our love"
Oh, the history is quite present
And never gets discussed/disgust
Now the Bible's turned to dollars
And pounds the peso into dust
In a new unholy union
telling us "In God We Trust"
They said we'd know they were Christians (3X)
By their love

Someday

And even now
Mother never sleeps
Wrapped in the darkness
She silently weeps
The stranger stole her sunshine away
So there she lies waiting
For someday
And even still
Father refuses to smile
(And) The pride he once wore
Is now out of style
The stranger stole his heart away
So there he waits
For someday
(verse/chorus instrumental)
Brother doesn't play
With his friends anymore
He sits in silence
Behind the bolted door
The stranger stole his best friend away
She was my best friend
It's been just a year
Of somedays

I Will Always Remember You
© 1994 Ukumbwa Sauti
I heard a cry
As I walked down by the bay
Thought I heard a little voice say,
Please help me...Help me live just one more day.
I turned and saw
A little child there on the sand
Pick up a starfish in her hand
And say, Ill throw you back in as far as I can
Then she danced
Across the sand there by the sea
Amongst the stars
As far as my old eyes could see
One by one
Setting all the starfish free
Then I heard another little voice say,
I will always remember you,
No matter what and come what may.
Yes, Ill always remember you
Cause you changed my life today.
IIl always remember you.
I asked her then
As the sun sped cross the sky,
Does it really matter if some starfish die?
She bowed her head
Her face seemed to want to cry
She turned to me
And said, Now this I know I is true.
Though this is one big job to do,
If you were one of them, it would matter to you.
So we danced
Across the sand there by the sea
Amongst the stars
As far as our young eyes could see
Two by two
Setting all the starfish free
Then I heard another little voice say,
I will always remember you,
No matter what and come what may.
Yes, Ill always remember you
Cause you saved my life today.
Ill always remember you.
Ill always remember - you. Ill always remember you.
And we danced - amongst the stars. (x4)

On Wings of Fire (poetic narration)
© 1998 Ukumbwa Sauti
I may not walk as you do
But I am on the road
I may not speak so clearly
Yet the stars know of my wisdom
I may not climb as high
But there are mountains shaken by my tenacious footfall
I may not be able to swim the seven seas
But there are whales whose songs call me friend
I may not hear my childs voice
But their laughter is a reflection of my love
I may not see the colors of your sunset
Yet I am at home in the night
And I am one
Whole
Not just a percentage of who you think you are
I am all that I am
And even though I may not have wings
As does the seagull
There so high above the water’s edge
I can fly
I can fly

House On Fire
© 1988 Ukumbwa Sauti
*What we thought was the heat of passion
Was the fire of destruction
We were so in fashion
Wrapped in a flame of seduction
But we wore it well
And it saved us from the winter's storm
*That would have left us all alone
Isolated, shivering in the dark
With no love to call our own
Searching in vain for that one little spark
That gave us hope
And promised we'd be safe and warm
So we held on to love
Love burning like a house on fire.
(bridge solo....short)
*Sometimes we try to forget
Sometimes we fight to remember
How infernos so quickly set
So slowly turn to embers
That we cherish somehow
Even though the fire tore us apart
*And I (gotta) ask myself why
We were afraid to be with somebody else
When we knew love had to die
Rather than live in its own private hell
And that is no place
For two lovers to embrace their heart
(verse solos)
So say so long to love (3X)
Love burning like a house on fire
