Our Mission

We are here to serve our community by helping our students develop themselves in a positive manner. We believe training in the martial arts is about more than just fighting, it's about building people up with the skills and attitudes necessary to overcome negative and dangerous influences in our community.

At FVMA we stress the understanding of the "3 dimensions (distances) of fighting". The first dimension is distance fighting. Our Tae Kwon Do program stresses this dimension. Learning to strike an attacker with kicks and punches from a longer distance can keep you from ever having to engage in close-in self-defense. The second dimension, close-in standing up fighting, is typified by elbow and knee strikes, American style boxing and some grabs and takedowns. Students from both styles learn basic proficiency in these techniques. The third dimension is close-in grappling and ground fighting. Studies have shown that as many as 70% of all altercations end up on the ground. Our Judo/Ju-Jitsu program emphasizes techniques to help you dominate this dimension.
Whichever program you decide on, you will learn practical self-defense and a complete martial art incorporating: Strikes, kicks, throwing and grappling. It's simply a matter of picking the style that works best for you.
