Activities
There are numerous activities each month to participate in. Remember that you can attend any, all, or no events based on your own schedule and interests. The following pages give brief descriptions of each activity. Feel free to contact a Board Member, or the appropriate Volunteer, if you have any additional questions. Children are welcome at all meetings and activities, including the monthly general meeting. All meetings and activities are informal. Because children are included, the monthly general meetings may get a little hectic at times.
- The monthly General Meeting was established so our members could meet officially once a month to discuss the upcoming month's events, share new ideas, welcome new members and guests, and receive the next month's newsletter and calendar, etc. This is a great time to make any suggestions you may have for our club.
- Each week there will be a Park Day. This is simply a chance for all of our moms and kids to visit, play, relax, and enjoy each other's company. Some park days may have themes, such as “bike day” or “kite day” when all kids are encouraged to bring their bikes or kites. The park day site will frequently change for a little variety and may sometimes be in a neighboring city. A map of the parks and recreation sites of Placentia is included in your membership folder. Directions for parks and recreation sites outside Placentia will be printed in the newsletter.
- Each month we will have a Craft Day which is usually held at a park. The craft will be described in the newsletter and noted on the monthly calendar. Please RSVP to the Kid's Craft Volunteer when your child will be participating to ensure enough supplies are available.
- In some months a Field Trip will be scheduled. Past trips include visits to a fire station and pumpkin patch, informational tours of a movie theater and restaurant, and lots more! In some cases, these require a moderate fee for participation. Each field trip will be described in the newsletter with specific information and directions, and noted on the monthly calendar. All members are encouraged to join in the fun. Please RSVP to the Field Trip Volunteer whenever you'll be attending.
- Once a month there will be a Mom's Night Out which gives us an opportunity to relax, recharge, and to get to know one another, without the kids. Typical activities include dinner at a restaurant, a night at the movies, etc. Please allow 2-3 hours for the evening. Please RSVP to the Mom's Night Out Volunteer.
- In some months we have a scheduled Family Night Out. This is a wonderful chance for Dad to participate in an activity with the club. These are often held at restaurants, so mom gets a night off from cooking! Details regarding family night out can be found in the newsletter.
- Occasionally we will have Breakfast Buddies or Lunch Buddies on the calendar. This is a chance for any interested moms and kids to meet for breakfast or lunch, at a kid-friendly restaurant or park. The time and location will be noted on the calendar.
- Every month, one park day will be designated as Birthday Buddies day. At this park day, a member who has previously volunteered will provide two dozen cupcakes or treats in honor of any child or mom who is having a birthday that month. All club members are encouraged to attend and enjoy the celebration of that month's birthdays.
- Mom's Playgroup is a chance for our members who have children in school to get together without the kids. (Nursing mothers with infants are also welcome to attend.) Refer to the monthly calendar for time and location.
- In order to connect with moms who have kids the same age, and for our kids to have playmates with similar skills and interests, we have age-appropriate Playgroups to participate in. These playgroups meet at a variety of locations and do a variety of activities based on each group's age. Please refer to the newsletter or calendar, or contact your Playgroup Coordinator, for more information.
- Once a month a Board Meeting will be held where our Board Members will discuss the upcoming month's agenda and any club issues. Only Board Members will attend this meeting. However, if you have an idea or suggestion, make sure you contact a Board Member prior to the meeting so that it can be discussed.
- Every few months a New Members Brunch will be held in order to welcome any new members into our club. Invitations will be sent to notify new members when a brunch is scheduled.
- At various times throughout the year (Halloween, Christmas/Hanukkah, Easter/Passover), we will have a Holiday Party. Members interested in attending may be asked to bring a potluck dish, decorations, or other items to make the party a success. A sign-up sheet will be available at the general meeting and other activities. Holiday parties are open only to immediate family members.
- All club members are invited to the annual Installation Dinner where the Board Members and Volunteer Coordinators are recognized and thanked, and the new Board and Volunteers begin their terms. This dinner is in place of that month's mom's night out, and is usually held in June.
