My news experience has taken me around the world with coverage of events ranging from election coverage of the U.S. Presidential race, famines in Somalia and Sudan, peacekeeping in Cypress, NATO forces in Germany, sports coverage of the winter Olympics, The NCAA Final Four, deep sea fishing in Tahiti and the Oscars in Hollywood.
As senior supervising cameraman at Global TV in Toronto I was responsible for hiring, training, and guiding a department of 12 photographers in a market of over 7 million viewers and was responsible for the purchase of the first Betacams in a television market in North America in 1981.
As a partner in MVN Productions based in Maryland, I co-produced and directed over 40 productions for the entertainment and educational industries.
I came to Raleigh in 1999 to head the Total Sports TV department where I hired photographers, editors, talent, and technicians and built a studio to provide live coverage of sports events in the field and “in house” for streaming access on our portals. Over the past year I built a similar facility for Terra Networks in Florida.
I am very interested in the future of television as it integrates with highband technologies, the developing needs of the information consumer, and the challenges for producers in maintaining the integrity of communications in an evolving medium.
