"Potter family vault?" Harry asked. Lily sighed. "Dumbledore didn't tell you. I guess David was right." "David? Your cousin?" Lily nodded. "He's probably still alive and in the United States. As to the vault, you gain access when you turn seventeen, which is the age of adults for wizards." "What was David right about?" Harry asked. "Dumbledore thinks of people like pieces on a chessboard and no one to contradict him for when he does something truly moronic. He also has too much on his plate to be effective at any one job," Lily said with a sad sigh. "David and Dumbledore did not get along. It was about a month ago...well...a month before this painting of me was made. "What happened?" "Snape had laced my food with a repulsion potion to hate James and was about to use a love potion, so I would love him. David was visiting us, after helping with a science exhibit at a museum. David found out about Snape's plan and beat Snape half to death and then helped me overcome everything Snape had done to me," Lily said, shaking her head. "From that point on, Snape was terrified of David." "I can not believe that Dumbledore would allow Snape to teach anyone and allow him to use Legillemency on me without restraint," Harry muttered. "I'm now starting to believe David's accusation that Snape put Dumbledore under the Imperius curse," Lily said softly. "At any rate, I think I had better get out of this Pensive memory." "True. I think we need to talk about Dumbledore and his stupidity regarding you," Lily said. After the two of them left the Pensive memory, Harry reabsorbed the memory and looked up at the painting holding his mother. "Dumbledore's stupidity regarding me?" Harry asked. "Let me get James first," Lily said. "And, get some clothes on over the swimsuit." Lily left for a bit and Harry picked up a book and started reading it. It was a book on combat spells that had some interesting tricks to them. "These could be useful," Harry muttered. James entered the library painting wearing the stereotypical mad scientist outfit, complete with mirror on a headband, and Lily was wearing a blue mini- dress that had red boots and a red cape attached and a red S on the chest. "I'd ask, but I'm the one who painted your clothes for you," Harry said. "It's no big deal. It's kind of fun dressing up in the costumes," Lily said with a smile. "You might want to go through a costume catalog for Halloween and make another painting." Harry shook his head. "Now we were going to talk about Dumbledore's stupidity." "Ah that. After you left, Lily and I talked about each of your adventures. The main problem is why isn't he chasing after Voldemort and binding his ghost to something or exorcising it, instead of just sitting in Hogwarts and letting the problem continue," James said. "What about that diary?" Harry asked. "We're looking though the books to figure out what he did. It looks like he created a Horcrux, but if it was destroyed, he should have died," James said. "According to what you have said, he's still out there. Speaking of looking through books, we found out some information on the blood wards that you should know." "Harry, there are some spells on Hedwig that are a combination of tracking and listening charms, along with a redirect charm. We picked that up earlier from the sensors." "Why didn't you use this trunk to go into hiding?" Harry asked, as he gazed at the ceiling. "It wasn't ready yet. Since you were raised as a Muggle, the easiest way to explain it, is that engines weren't charged up enough to start up and stay running," Lily replied. "My best guess is that if Peter hadn't betrayed us, we would have used the trunk." "How could it not be ready?" Harry asked. "Its ability to move without tearing the trunk apart wasn't ready. Basically, fields holding the trunk together were building up, along with a charm that canceled internal inertia. Also, the sensors weren't charged up. The trunk wasn't finished until recently," Lily replied. "My future self wrote that she had an idea that she/I would be here, but not James. I'm sort of the control computer for the trunk. I built the trunk and this painting of me added to it finished one of the features. James, your father, has things he can do that can help be keep the trunk running properly." Lily smiled, as she thought of her cousin and then her face turned grim. "Harry, the blood wards were not set up by us, you, or the Durselys. Yes, they act as a protection, but blood wards set up by someone else can be used in a different manner. If Dumbledore, or more likely Snape, wants to, he could set the blood wards up to siphon out all the magic and life from someone inside the blood wards and transfer them to himself." Harry's blood ran cold and his face paled. The look on James face was one mixed of horror, disgust and anger, as Lily nodded. "I see you understand. He is probably waiting until you turn seventeen and are able to claim the vault and by using that ritual, he claims the vault for himself," Lily softly said. "The Weaslys are picking me up to see the World Cup and after that, I'm heading to Hogwarts. Before I hit the train, I'll send a letter explaining the situation to the Dursleys and one to the Ministry. I'm not sure who though," Harry muttered. "Director of Magical Law Enforcement. You might also want to mention the mail wards to the letter to the Ministry and not send anything to the Dursleys. Let the Ministry deal with that mess," Lily said. Harry nodded and wrote out a letter and placed it aside to be sent out later. He flipped through the book a bit more saw that there were a few letters stuffed into the book. He flipped to the front of the book and saw the tile. It was called 'Horrifying Combat Spells and How to Terrify Your Enemies by David Evans'. Checking the book a bit closer, he saw that it was done differently than all the books he had bought in the past. "I didn't know your cousin wrote a book," Harry said. "He didn't, or at least not for mass publication. He mentioned that he would make three copies of a book with his spells in it. He would keep one, I would get one, and the third would be mailed to him from a US post office, to have proof that he wrote the book and to prevent anyone from stealing his spells," Lily said. "One of his hobbies is book binding. Even though he is a wizard, he preferred to continue to gain a Muggle or, as he keeps claiming, a non-magical education. He wanted to be a paleontologist and dig up dinosaur bones." James grimaced when they started talking about David. "Harry, Lily's cousin is not someone you want upset with you. I've met him once that I can recall. After the painting was made, I'm not sure. He is about four years older than Lily and our one meeting was after a Death Eater attack. Five Death Eaters ambushed him and he did something to cause them to stay put, while he burned all of them to cinders. He then proceeded to deal with Snape and his attempt to control Lily. Not once did he show any sort of emotion and I found out later that all the scars he has were from when he was eight years old and something called a gang war broke out and some of the gangsters broke into his home. That was when his first burst of accidental magic happened and he called for something called a hearse for the gangsters to be taken from his home." "I think I'll avoid contacting him, if I can help it," Harry replied, with a bit of an amused laugh. "Thank you. " James said, as an expression of relief passed across his face. "Even though you were supposed to be raised by him, I'm still scared of him." Harry gave a laugh and shook his head. "At any rate, I should head back outside and wait for the Weasleys to pick me up." "Speaking of that, be careful and don't say anything Harry. Could you put your memory of when you first met them into the pensive?" James said. "I just have a bad feeling." Harry shrugged and did as he was asked. He quickly left the trunk and went back to bed. As Harry woke up at the beginning of the day, he noted it was Saturday and sighed. He would have to put up with both his Uncle Vernon as well. He sighed and reentered the trunk. Lily walked into the painting in the front room and nodded at Harry, she was still wearing the Supergirl outfit. "James was right. There was something going on," Lily stated flatly. "Huh? What are you talking about?" "How could Molly Weasley not know where Platform Nine and Three Quarters was? She has multiple children who have attended Hogwarts. She herself has attended Hogwarts. I don't think Arthur or Molly would think too much of setting up a meeting between themselves and you if Dumbledore asked it of them." "Why would they do that?" Harry asked a bit perplexed. "I have only known one good person who has disagreed with Dumbledore and that is my cousin David. If you hadn't told us about your life, we would have trusted Dumbledore as well," Lily replied. "My guess is Dumbledore is shaping you for some reason." "Well, I'm not coming back here at the end of the year. Let the Blood Wards collapse," Harry said. "I should have been raised by David Evans." "True. However, you do have that book with his spells in it. Knowing him, he's got some very violent protections on it, so that you are the only one who can read it," Lily said with an amused snort. "You'll have to create an athame for some of those spells." "Athame?" "A specialized knife built in such a way to focus energy like a wand does," Lily replied. "David used an athame instead of a wand. He said that he preferred a weapon that he could shove through an enemy's heart in the middle of combat. Moving on, David has also written down notes on Voodoo from Haiti while making disparaging remarks against the Imperius and Cruciatus Curse. He's also collected information on Shamanism. I think the two of us put together a prototype Killing Curse shield and placed it on you. There is a charm that we created that lasts a month and blocks Imperius and Cruciatus." "I'll have to learn those magics if I want to stand a chance against Voldemort. I wonder if Voldemort knows them," Harry muttered. "Probably not. I'm quite sure he would have used them, if he knew them," Lily said. "Harry, the British Wizarding World discards any magic that doesn't fit into their pre-conceived mold. A Voodoo doll combines the power of Imperius and Cruciatus and doesn't require filling you heart with hatred to cast and the spell that blocks Voodoo dolls from working on you also acts like a buffer against two of the three Unforgivables." Harry nodded in understanding. "I'll talk to you later. I've got to get ready for the Quidditch World Cup. At least it gets me away from here early." Lily nodded. "There is that. Keep the trunk with you at all times. I'm quite sure James would love watching the game." "Don't worry. I intend to. I also intend to take my other trunk and maybe a second one to keep this one hidden." "There is self-shrinking trunks in one of the storerooms above. Put your books and clothes for this year in it and shrink once it's filled. This trunk is set up differently than other extra-dimensional spaces and won't interfere with others," Lily said with a smile. Harry quickly found a group of five self-shrinking trunks and found one that was empty, which was rather new looking. He filled it up with some robes and books he believed would be used for the upcoming year. He hesitated and put the Marauder's Map, Firebolt and invisibility cloak inside the trunk as well. He thought for a moment and placed a single letter in the trunk. He shrunk the trunk and put it in his right pocket. After leaving, he shrunk the dimensional trunk and put it in his left pocket. He looked at his old school trunk and put some stuff inside of it that he didn't want the Dursley's to get, but he didn't really need with him at school, along with Hedwig's cage. He chuckled and went down to breakfast. He decided to have some fun at the Dursley's expense. "Aunt Petunia, I found a letter to mum and was wondering about this David person. I think he is your cousin," Harry said. Petunia's eyes widened in shock as Vernon paled so fast that Harry was worried he might have a heart attack. Vernon stood up and looked at Dudley. "Dudley, get your things we are leaving until tonight. Pet, you deal with this question," Vernon said, as he headed for the doorway. Dudley looked to his mother and then his father. He realized that Harry was in trouble somehow and that his dad didn't want to be around when his mom started shrieking. He left and followed his dad out of the kitchen. Petunia looked out the window and saw the car pull away. She turned and faced Harry with a strange look on her face. "Harry, we do not mention my cousin around your uncle. It's not because he's a wizard; it's because he is so terrifying. He has calmed down a bit since he got married and had children, but I still don't want him mad at me. What was that letter about?" "The letter was about thanking Lily for placing trust that he would raise me, if none of the other choices were available. I'm wondering if my being placed here was some sort of petty revenge against David," Harry muttered, while looking down to hide a smile. Petunia gave a gasp of horror and looked at Harry with wide eyes. "We never thought that that might be the reason you were sent here. The way we've been treating you.... If he found out and he came here.... No. I will talk to Vernon later. That freaky world of yours is one thing, but David is something else. By the time he was your age, he had killed and injured several people. The police have never arrested him, since in every case it was a clear cut case of self defense." Before Harry could say anything, there came a knock at the door. Harry left, seeing that his aunt was shaking like a leaf. Seeing that the postman had a letter covered with stamps, Harry gave an amused snort and fed a line about being a stamp collector and that a friend was sending him a bunch of stamps. The postman rolled his eyes and left without saying a word. "A little quick thinking kept that from getting out of hand," Harry thought to himself, and opened the letter. "The World Cup." As soon as he walked into the kitchen, he looked at Aunt Petunia and smiled. "Aunt Petunia, my friends are picking me up later today to go to the Quidditch World Cup. I hope you don't mind." "Vernon will be glad you are gone. After you leave, the three of us are going to have a long talk," Petunia said, as she tried to steady her hands. "You might want to make the talk away from here, it might not be comfortable here," Harry said. Petunia narrowed her eyes at what Harry said and gave a quick nod. Harry sat down in the living room and grabbed some ordinary three ring binder paper and started doodling. In between the doodles, he wrote about all the listening charms placed around the house. Instead of coming the normal way, Arthur Dursley arrived via the fireplace "Ready to go Harry?" Arthur asked. Harry looked at Arthur Weasley and saw the twins had arrived with him. "My uncle and cousin are away from here right now. Something came up and they left. My trunk is upstairs," Harry replied, as he set the papers down. The twins looked disappointed that Dudley wasn't there. Harry shook his head and smiled. "When will they... "...be back?" Harry sighed. "Later tonight. Aunt Petunia is making sure he sticks to his diet and checking all the places he could hide food for any sort of candy." The twins sighed regretfully and retrieved Harry's old trunk. The twins looked at Harry a bit confused, and didn't say a word as Harry shook his head and stood up. "Let's go. Don't worry about those papers, they are just doodles I was doing to pass the time away," Harry said cheerfully. The twins nodded at Harry, as Petunia headed over to where the papers were. Harry gave a quick not at Petunia when she was close to the papers. Harry stepped into the fireplace that had been turned into a floo and vanished. Arthur and the twins followed him. Petunia picked up the papers and saw some words written on one of the pages. She read it and her face paled at the implications. "We were helping in a vendetta against David...," Petunia whispered in horror. "If they are like that and haven't contacted us, it has to be true. We're going to die." Far away at the Burrow, Harry stopped himself from falling on his face, after exiting the floo. He got out of the way before Arthur Weasley came through. As soon as the twins arrived with his trunk Harry gave a smirk and pulled out the trunk from his right pocket and enlarged it. "This is where all my books are. That trunk has stuff in it that I don't want the Dursleys to throw out, but I really don't need at school," Harry said. "That is a great idea on..." "...having a second trunk." Molly Weasley came into the living room of the Burrow and heard Harry talk. "Do you have all your books?" Molly asked. "Old versions of all except the current DADA course," Harry replied. "I still have some galleons stored at the bottom of my old trunk for buying that one book and fresh potions ingredients, not that I really want to take Potions." "I'll get that stuff for you," Molly assured. "And Harry, Potions are important." "Maybe. I'll have to talk to whoever is in charge of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement about something," Harry said in a dark tone. "Amelia Bones?" Arthur asked in surprise. "I have no idea what you want to talk to her about." "It's important. At least I think it is," Harry stated. "Very well, we'll go talk to her," Arthur said. Harry opened the self-shrinking trunk and removed the letter he placed inside. He gave a wicked grin, as he followed Arthur through the floo. After they arrived at the Department of Law Enforcement, Arthur showed Harry in and introduced Harry to Amelia. "Greetings, what can I do for you?" Amelia asked. "Mr. Weasley, I don't mean to be rude, but this is private and a bit sensitive," Harry said. "I'll wait for you outside," Arthur said. After Mr. Weasley left, Amelia put up a secrecy charm. Harry tossed the letter to Amelia Bones who read it and her eyes first widened and narrowed. "I do not want to take Potions from Snape. He is one of the three people responsible for the deaths of my parents. Pettigrew and Voldemort are the other two. Snape also has invaded my mind and placed compulsions in me. Once I put this amulet on, they were wiped out and I was to do my own thinking once again," Harry said bluntly. "You said Pettigrew." "Do you have a Pensive?" Harry asked. Amelia nodded and brought one out. Harry deposited the memory of the confrontation with Pettigrew into the Pensive, along with some of the ways Snape favored his own house and deliberately mangled Gryffindor house. He also put in the memory of the amulet wiping out the compulsions. Director Bones went into the memories and after she saw them, her face hardened. "I will get to the bottom of this Mister Potter. The way Snape teaches is appalling. I've been wondering why there are so few Auror candidates coming from Hogwarts that aren't in Slytherin." "I'm wondering if Snape has placed compulsions in other students. Neville Longbottom seems to be a favorite target of his as well, and then there is the Weasley clan," Harry said. "What if he did that to Minister Fudge or even you or your niece." "I have never met Snape that I can recall." "Director Bones, there are a few more things. Can I have your assurance that what you see from here on out is not mentioned? It is important, because I feel that Snape or Dumbledore will try to destroy something of extreme value to me." Amelia Bones nodded. Harry pulled out the trunk from his left pocket and enlarged it. He pressed the white button at the top and entered the trunk. Director Bones followed him. "Nice place you have here. I take it this trunk is what you want protected," Amelia said. Harry nodded and picked up a piece of parchment and handed to Director Bones. "This is a copy of my parents' will. There should be a copy at the Ministry and it has been violated. There is more. There are Blood Wards around Number Four Privet Drive. Since I didn't set them up, or anyone of my mother's blood did, they can be used to drain me of all my magic and life force by the person who did set them up. At first I thought it might be Dumbledore, but he keeps trusting Snape and I'm worried that he had Snape set them up. There are also mail screening wards and listening charms that are to the point where almost anything that is said gets reported to someone. I'm being treated like a convict." Amelia Bones looked at the will and she stared in shock. "Merlin! The last time I checked, David Evans was still alive! Why are you at the Dursley residence?" Amelia exclaimed. "That's what I want to know. I have no idea other than some sort of petty revenge against my father or David Evans," Harry replied. "It is the possibility of the second I'm frightened of," Amelia said, as she sank down onto a couch. "I'll also have to see if Mister Evans screwball theory is sound. He kept saying that Dumbledore was under the Imperis curse." "Madam Bones? There is something I should tell you," Harry said, and then told her of the dream that he had about Pettigrew and Voldemort. "That sounds like it has to take precedence over almost everything else. I had better take care of something right now," Amelia said. "Come with me, Harry." The two of them left the trunk and Harry shrunk the trunk back down. Amelia quickly flooed her more trustworthy Aurors to head to the Crouch estate and to Moody's home to check up on both. "Arthur, I will bring Harry to the Burrow. There is some stuff that I need him here for." Mr. Weasley gave a nod and left. "Where are we going?" Harry asked. "The Department of Mysteries. There is a prophecy about you and you had better hear it," Amelia Bones stated. "Then, I'm going to file your emancipation paper, despite what Fudge and Dumbledore wants. The Blood Ward threat meant your life was in danger and any sort of magic going on while you were inside them has to be removed from your records. You do realize that you can not head back to Privet Drive for a year?" "I know. Let the wards collapse. I have this trunk I can hide out in," Harry replied. "I should have been raised by someone other than the Dursleys." Amelia quickly led Harry to the Department of Mysteries where the two of them heard the prophecy about how he would vanquish the Dark Lord and how only one could survive. Harry explained the first year and about how Voldemort was still around. He thought about the prophecy for a moment and then looked at the ceiling. "Right now, Voldemort is a ghost. I guess this prophecy has been fulfilled," Harry speculated. "That is likely and very possible. We'll just put this in the fulfilled category and forget about it," Amelia said. "Let's get your emancipation taken care of. Then, I'm going to have fun in breaking Snape. I'll have to talk to Agusta Longbottom and let her know what Snape has been doing, since you said that Neville is also a favorite target of his. Let's get you back to the Burrow." As they arrived at the Burrow, they heard Molly going off on the twins. "With your grades, you will never be able to work at the Ministry." Fred replied, "We don't want to work at the Ministry, we want to open a joke shop." "Those two would not do well in the Ministry, Molly. They don't have the right temperament for it," Amelia said with a chuckle. "Director Bones. I'm sorry. I didn't hear you come through the floo," Molly said, a bit embarrassed. "That's all right. I'm here on official business. I want some mind healers from Saint Mungos to look through your children's minds. I have reason to believe that someone has been tampering with students who are in Gryffindor," Amelia replied in a more serious tone. "You should have enough time before the World Cup starts." Silence greeted those words for several long moments. A female voice piped up. "Would that also include me?" "And you are?" Amelia asked. "Hermione Granger." "I've heard of you. Yes, you are also someone that needs checked out," Amelia said. Smiling, Harry looked at the pendant he was wearing and thought, "Snape is going to rue the day I got this pendant."
