Military: “Family tradition” has it that Caleb was drafted into the New York State Militia for service in the War of 18 12 at Plainfield, Otsego County, NY in March 1813. He served under Corporal Anthony Smith, also a resident of Pittsfield. The company was commanded by Captain William Pallmer under Colonel Belner who was under General Brown. Caleb and Corporal Smith were taken prisoner on June 6, 1813 at the Battle of Stoney Creek in Canada. They were taken to prison in Quebec. Corporal Smith was exchanged, but Caleb was not and died in a Québec prsion. Military service records have not been located for Caleb.
