What can I say about Hong Kong...hmmm---it is too big it is a small area, it is crowded---it is FABULOUS !! It is all true!!
"Hong
Kong" is an all encompassing name. Actually there is Hong Kong Island generally referred to as Central. Then there
is Kowloon which is on the mainland and called by its name. Hong Kong could refer to Central, Kowloon or several other areas
around. Confusing? A little, but it is not difficult to assimilate even for a first time visitor.
It has been several
years since my last visit. Much has changed but MUCH is the same it has been for hundreds of
years. Hong Kong is a shoppers
paradise. If it is made on earth, you can buy it in Hong Kong and generally at a lower price. Electronics, computer and camera
equipment can be bought on every street corner --- beware however of the shysters on Nathan Road. Bait and switch is the name
of the game and you WILL get swindled 9 out of 10 times in these shops. The legitimate dealers for this equipment can be found
very easily through a short chat with your friendly hotel concierge.
The big city skyline with all the ever so
tall buildings easily rivals New York or most major American cities. This applies to both Hong Kong and Central.
Food---well!
I don't have the space here OR or the finger dexterity to describe it all! it would take pages to tell about ALL the food
offerings in Hong Kong.
The Burger King and McDonalds are on every other corner as are the Starbucks. The big
American steakhouse chains have locations in Hong Kong i.e Ruth's Chris and Morton's for Steak are a couple. Every possible
ethnic cuisine you could imagine is probably available within a 10 minute walk from any major hotel on Hong Kong or in Kowloon.
Then there are the MANY varieties of Chinese cuisine. First, there is NO Chop Suey. There is NO Chow Mein as such.
Those are American inventions. Again, the hotel concierge is always a good source of information for the best in food offerings.
I could go on --- oh heavens I could go on!
I chose the Kowloon Hotel for this trip to Hong Kong. Check it out through
