Our next "Dayville" Yoga retreat will be dedicated
to the lifework of Swami Chinmayananda (1916-1993). For over 40 years, Swami Chinmayananda was responsible for bringing the
teachings of Advaita Vedanta to the masses, & making what had previously been reserved for the very few, freely available
to all, regardless of gender, nationality, religion or position in life. He worked to rejuvenate Hinduism by making previously
unavailable insights of the Upanishads & Gita accessible to the general population. He was instrumental in bringing the
wisdom of Hindu heritage to everyone. He was given Sanyas by Swami Sivananda of Rishikesh in 1949 on Shivaratri. Swami Chinmayananda
later lived an austere life in the Himalayas for many years, studying with the renouned Vedanta master Swami Tapovanam. Swami
Chinmayananda then came down from the mountains, eloquently spreading the knowledge of Vedanta and transforming the lives
of tens of thousands that came to listen to him.
The retreat will include stories about Swami
Chinmayananda's life and his Vedantic teachings. We'll immerse ourselves in yogic practices of hatha yoga, pranayam, yoga
nidra, chanting, meditation, live music and theatric reenactments from Swami Chinmayananda's very inspiring and energetic
There will be a 15 minute silent break with
snacks in the middle of the day. The day will conclude around 5:30 pm with a communal vegetarian meal of kitchiri. There will
not be satsang following the Dayville Retreat.
