Michael Scott,
Regional Manager of the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin paper supply company, is told by the corporate office that there
may be downsizing at the Scranton branch.
Even though
Michael assures everyone that there won’t be downsizing, everyone fears for their jobs.
Michael hires
a new temp, named Ryan Howard, and shows him around the office.
We
are also introduced to other characters. Dwight, the assistant (to the) regional manager, who thinks he has more power in
the office than he really does. Jim, a sales associate, who enjoys playing tricks on Dwight and has a crush on Pam. And Pam,
the cute receptionist, who is engaged (for three years) to Roy, who works in the warehouse.
Diversity Day
Air
Date: March 29 2005
A special consultant, named Mr. Brown, comes to the
Office to teach a seminar on diversity in the workplace. Michael pretends that it was his idea to have the seminar, when really
it was because of Michaels offensive jokes that they, needed to have the seminar.
Michael is not happy with Mr. Brown seminar, so he decides
to teach one of his own in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, Jim is trying to make his biggest sale of
the year, but keeps getting interrupted by Michael.
Health Care
Air
Date: April 5 2005
When corporate asks Michael to pick a new Health plan, he asks Dwight to do it for him, because Michael doesn’t
want people to be angry with him, Dwight gladly accepts. Dwight, who makes the conference room into a “Workspace”,
asks everyone to fill out a form telling about their medical history, to make sure that they are covered, since no one was
happy with the first plan he picked. Jim and Pam take full advantage of this, making up many fake illnesses.
The Alliance
Air Date: April 12 2005
Michael decides to throw a birthday party for the person with the
next birthday at the office, to get everyone to forget about the downsizing and to have fun. Even though Meredith’s
birthday isn’t for a month, that doesn’t stop Michael. He gets Pam, Phyllis and Angela to do the planning.
Dwight approaches Jim and asks if he wants to be in an “Alliance”
with him, because of the downsizing. This gives Jim the perfect opportunity to play practical jokes on Dwight. Jim tells Pam
all about what’s going on with Dwight, and Dwight thinks it’s just part of the “Strategy”
Michael also makes a donation to Oscar’s nephew’s charity walk.
Basket Ball
Air Date: April 19 2005
In
this episode Michael organizes a basket ball game between the warehouse staff and the office employees. After realizing that
some of the employees will have to come into work on Saturday, Michael makes a deal with the warehouse staff, that who ever
looses the game will have to work on Saturday. Michael appoints himself the captain of the office team, and since he won’t let Dwight on the team,
he gives Dwight the responsibility of organizing the holiday and weekend work calendar.
Hot Girl
Air Date: April 26 2005
A pretty woman, Katy, comes to the office wanting to sell he purses.
Michael first says no, but after seeing her, he lets her sell them in the conference room. Pam gets jealous of Katy, since
people obviously find Katy pretty than her. Michael, being attracted to Katy, makes sure she’s comfortable, he even
opens the coffee maker that was for the prize for the person with the most sales so that he can make he some coffee. Michael
isn’t the only one with a crush on Katy, Dwight and Jim are also attracted to her, Dwight even asks her out, of course,
she says no. When Katy’s ride home bails on her, Michael offers to take her home and although she doesn’t want
to, Katy accepts, but later when Jim offers, Katy is happy to escape the ride home with Michael.
