Posted 6/18/09 Summer Camp 2009 summer camp was its usual success.
Troop 1997 won a number of awards during the week and during the camp-wide games. Joe P put his trademark stamp on the Saturday
games with an Egyptian theme and costumes that were the envy of the camp.
While the troop
gets plenty dirty in the course of having lots of fun, we proved we know how to clean up as well. Troop 1997 recieved our
first ever perfect clean camp score this year!
Be sure to attend
our fall court of honor where the many rank advancements and merit badges earned during summer camp will be awarded.

Webelos-O-Ree
October 24 - 26, 2008
Troop 1997 hosted the event bonfire and the "fire starting station"
again at this year's Webelos-O-Ree. As is tradition, it rained all day Saturday, but cleared just in time for the bonfire
that evening. The troop was even provided with a cabin, so we weren't exactly roughing it! The youth (and one adult
with a chainsaw) worked feverishly all day in the rain to build the towering structure that was the bonfire that evening. Despite
a little wet weather, the weekend was pure 100% fun for all involved.
Saturday evening culminated in a truely shameless skit to promote
the troop, ending with the entire audience of Webelos chanting "Troop 1997" before the bonfire was lit. This
turned out to be another epic bonfire, surpassing even last year's inferno. See picture below for details.

Summer Camp 2008
Summer camp this year took place from Sunday, July 20 through Sunday,
July 27. 18 scouts were in attendance along with 6 adults.
Cleanest camp! Despite our reputation and most
sisters' assessment as "dirty smelly boys", Troop 1997 earned first place as the Cleanest Camp, missing a perfect score by
only one small scrap of paper!! Seems we're not quite so dirty and smelly after all.
Troop 1997 also earned a number of other awards including first
place in camp-wide rifle marksmanship, second place in archery, and the coveted Davey Crocket award for best overall marksmanship
camp-wide.
