In considering an education based on standards for Colorado school-aged children,
the Colorado General Assembly and the State Board of Education implemented the Colorado’s
Model Content Standards. This is the guideline
that Colorado schools and school districts follow to encourage a challenging academic
environment. These standards offer expectations of a student’s knowledge of subjects at specific points in their education. These subjects should be part of the child’s daily school curriculum.
For grade levels 3-10 the
standards are:
Civics
Dance
Economics
Foreign Language
Geography
History
Mathematics Music
Physical Education
Reading and Writing
Science
Theatre
Visual Arts
To assure that standards are met for the above categories, the Colorado Student Assessment
Program (CSAP) is in place to measure students’ achievement in relation to the Colorado Model Content Standards. As the child progresses from grades 3-10 they will participate in the CSAP tests consisting
of writing, math and science.
