Abstract

I am a graduate student working on a dissertation that explores that transformation of the organic food industry in the United States from 1965 - 2002, culminating in the adoption of the first U.S. National Organic Standards. My research interests include the politics and organizations involved as the organic market grew from a marginalized segment of the retail grocery sector into a major niche market, one that is now embraced by many of the same corporations that earlier activists harshly critiqued. My dissertation advisors include Paul DiMaggio, Miguel Centeno, and Robert Wuthnow.
