Taste For Douglasville Arts - General Event Information (2003)

Location: Downtown Douglasville, on O’Neal Plaza and Church Street
Just West of Campbellton and South of Broad Street
Exit #36 from I-20, go north on Campbellton St.General Description:
An annual event benefiting the Cultural Arts Council for Douglasville & Douglas County.
Over 25 restaurants and drink vendors will be located in Downtown Douglasville serving tastes of their best fare. The event also includes arts & crafts vendors, children’s art workshops, entertainment from local schools and extra-curricular groups and a chance to meet many of our local sponsors.The DFCS Foster Care Campaign will also be visiting the Taste and speaking between 11:30 a.m. & noon.

Tickets will be sold in two locations at both ends of O’Neal Plaza - at Church Street & at Broad Street. Tickets are sold in $.50 cent increments. Tickets must be used to purchase food and pay for children’s activities. Children’s Activities ~ 2003
Sidewalk Art Contest
Elementary, Middle School and High School children will have the opportunity to buy a sidewalk square and demonstrate their artistic abilities using sidewalk chalk & their imaginations! Prizes will be given in each age category for best design.
Time: 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Cost: $2 per square
Theme: Patriotic
Judging will be done by the Douglas County Art Guild at 4:00 p.m. Young artists do not need to be present to win.
Arts Workshops
Multiple arts workshops will be offered in the afternoon covering multiple art mediums. Instructors are from the local community. These workshops are intended to allow children to experience different types of art in a fun environment, and to spark their creativity and future involvement in the arts.

Mother’s Day items will be available. Painted items will be taken back to studio and fired. Children can pick up their ceramics after Wednesday of the following week
Patriotic Tile Painting will also be available to all Taste visitors throughout the day.
Cost: $5 per student
There will be a limit of 25 students per class, and attendance is first come – first serve on the day of the Taste
Bike Town
The Douglas SAFE KIDS Coalition will be featuring Bike Town, sponsored by Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. Bike Town is a bike course where children 14 and under may bring their own bikes to ride the course. Helmets are mandatory, but new, cool helmets may be purchased with a $10 cash donation to SAFE KIDS. Associated activities include:
- The Douglasville Police Department will have their Bike and Motor Patrol assisting with this event and educating children on safety, laws and importance of good safety habits
- The Fire Safety House will be on site, with a representative of the Fire Department to teach children what to do in the event of a home fire, and to offer fire safety activity books.
- Child ID Program where parents will receive a free Liberty Mutual child identification kit. The kit allows the parents to register their child’s personal information, including gender, height, weight, hair color, blood type, distinguishing marks, allergies & medical information. The kit also includes a place to secure a recent photo, and 10 blocks to print each of the child’s fingerprints using an enclosed ink strip.
- Sports Safety station with sports safety games sponsored by Gable Sporting Goods
- SAFETY PUP, sponsored by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department, will be helping with the event
- Chick-Fil-A will provide food coupons for all Bike Town participants
- Drawing for gifts donated by local merchants
- Face painting

- Information booths by other community service organizations
Douglas SAFE KIDS Coalition is a network of the National SAFE KIDS Campaign, a non-profit campaign dedicated solely to the prevention of unintentional childhood injury – the number one killer of children ages 14 and under. DSK is a collaborative effort of police officers, deputies, fire fighters, medical professionals, community service organizations, school teachers, and local business partners. The Douglas County Board of Health is the lead agency.
Pertinent facts include:
- Bicycle Safety
: More than 500,000 people are hurt in bicycle accidents each year; and of the 600 bicyclists killed annually in traffic crashes, 90 percent were not wearing a helmet- Sports Safety
: More than 3.5 million children ages 14 and under sufer medically treated sports injuries each year. Many of these injuries occur during practices, and many are related to improper use or lack of proper safety gear- Missing Children
: According to the FBI’s National Crime Information Center, more than 2,000 children a day were reported missing last year, and only 2 percent of those children who were abducted had fingerprints taken and personal information recorded before they were lost.Other Children’s Activities, 2003

Deloitte Consulting, Atlanta GA 1998 - Present
- Director of Real Estate Services, Americas: Responsible for the establishment of a new real estate services group that will manage all Deloitte Consulting properties in U.S., Canada, Mexico and South America. Specific responsibilities include: real estate strategic planning; lease management and negotiation, construction project management, technology implementation, insurance coverage, property accounting, vendor program management, standards development, and management of occupancy cost budget of $75 million.
- Controller and Director of Operations: Responsible for all Southeast financial, administrative and support functions for 600 personnel across 3 offices. Specific departments include finance, information technology, facilities, administrative support, graphics and reproduction and travel, with a staff of 50 personnel. Also responsible for controller functions for East Region manufacturing and consumer business practices.
- Consulting Manager:
Project leader for $15 million real estate project to consolidate 3 Atlanta locations. Responsible for developing business case and strategy, procuring 125,000 square feet of new office space, designing and constructing space, and leading move of all personnel, along with overseeing significant technology installation and upgrades.Georgia Pacific Corporation 1994 - 1998
- Coated Bleached Board Machine Operations Superintendent: Responsible for operations and labor force of one coated bleached board machine with daily production of 525 tons. Specific responsibilities included safety performance, management of $12 million yearly budget, oversight of 60 hourly and 7 salaried employees, quality and customer complaint process, training, and outage and shutdown scheduling and coordination. Results over 4 months included a 6% increase in uptime, implementation of ISO 9000 program, closer adherence to outage schedules, and increase in quality-finished tonnage.
- Paper Machine Maintenance Superintendent: Responsible for all maintenance activities for paper machine department composed of 2 linerboard machines and 1 medium machine with daily production of 3400 tons. Area also included a recycle plant and mill-wide machine shop. Specific responsibilities included safety performance, management of $15 million yearly budget, oversight of 65 hourly and 9 salaried employees, training and management of planning, scheduling and execution of all outage and daily maintenance work. Results over 18 months included improved safety performance from 10 recordables in 1995 to 0 in 1997, and reduction in maintenance related downtime of 35% over all 4 areas.
- Manager of Analysis:
Led team of maintenance personnel to develop and implement best practices in the maintenance department across all mill departments.
