Mack says, "I have always been interested in some form of art since I was a small child and liked to draw and paint. As I grew older my interests changed and I saw glass as another forum to explore. I took a Stained Glass class at a local community college and knew it was what I wanted to do. I then began teaching classes beginning in 1972 and continued for about 15 years, at several community colleges in Michigan where we lived at the time.
I was a member of the University of Michigan Artists and Craftsman Guild and successfully exhibited and sold my works in their annual weeklong summer art street fair for 17 years. During the early 80’s I also exhibited and sold in the Lansing, Michigan Street Art Fair winning purchase awards and honorable mentions several years. I designed and constructed a window for a Meditation Chapel at the McPherson Hospital in Howell, Michigan during this period.
Because of the reputation I acquired due to the shows, I was offered an opportunity to go into partnership with a local glass company in Farmington, Michigan. The company provided custom glass designs and installations for builders, homeowners and interior decorators and for commercial businesses, such as restaurants. Our company did original glass etching, mirrored walls, sidelights, screens, room divider panels and windows. I continued to do sales and designs for the company until my retirement in 1997.
After 30 years I still find glass an exciting and challenging art form that allows me the opportunity to experiment with different techniques and designs. Retirement offers me the time to continue pursuing my passion."
