Confederate States Submarine H.L. Hunley

Annually, the Arizona Division recognizes outstanding Junior ROTC Cadets with the presentation of the SCV's H.L. Hunley Award.  The award, named after the famous Confederate submarine, CSS H.L. Hunley, the first submarine in history to sink an enemy warship, represents honor, courage and commitment.

Although the award has a naval theme, it is appropriate for presentation to an Army JROTC Cadet in that the submarine was commanded by Lieutenant George Dixon, an Army officer and a veteran of the battle of Shiloh.
