Honorary Societies

Within the Arizona Division, there exist three honorary societies which honor our ancestors who served in the mounted arm of the Confederate Army, the artillery and the infantry.

Membership in the Society of the Sons of the Sabre is open to any descendant of a Confederate horse soldier, be he a cavalryman, a mounted infantryman or a horse artilleryman. Even descendants of horse Marines are eligible.

Membership in the Society of the Sons of Saint Barbara is open to any descendant of a Confederate artilleryman—field artillery, coastal artillery or Naval gunner.

Membership in the Society of the Sons of Saint Maurice is open to any descendant of a Confederate infantryman or Marine. Members receive a society badge, certificate and membership card.

Membership is not restricted to the Arizona Division but is open to any SCV member in good standing. The Societies have no officers, no annual dues and no meetings. There is a one-time initiation fee of $10.00 to cover administrative costs. The Societies exist solely to memorialize the legacy of the Confederate horse soldier, artilleryman or infantryman and are honorary societies within the context of the Arizona Division.

Include your name, address, email address, Camp name and number as well as your ancestor’s name, rank and unit. Enclose a check or money order payable to Arizona Division SCV in the amount of $10.00 for the initiation fee. Members receive a society badge, a membership certificate and card. If you have ancestors who served in more than one branch of service, you may join the appropriate society. The $10.00 initiation fee must be included for each society joined. If you have two or more ancestors who served in the same branch, you may include all of them in one society membership
