Same assignment.  The story behind this is obscure, and interesting, so I will tell it.  The story is an old Inuit legend.  Sedna was a girl who married a seagull. He grew abusive, so she left him, and ran home to her brother and father.  They were taking her away in their kayak, when the seagull swooped in, and began attacking them, demanding his bride back.  Frightened, the brother and father threw Sedna overboard.  She clung to the side of the boat, but her brother cut off her fingers, and she fell into the sea.  Her fingers, it is said, became the sea mammals, and Sedna a witch at the bottom of the sea, controlling them.  When the food supply is low, it is said that Sedna is frustrated because she can not groom herself without fingers, so a shaman for the good of the community must travel down to the bottom of the sea and either wrestle or groom her.  After this, she will release the sea mammals, and food will become plentiful again.
