The Lange ResidenceSanta Cruz, California
This home finds its true character in the monterey style. Replacing the thin stucco arches along the entry walk with hefty wood posts and beams provides a simple dignity. Inside, the fireplace is remodeled to evoke the smooth curves of white washed adobe, with a rough hewn sandstone hearth. |

A Seabright CottageSanta Cruz, California
A Study in Before and After
This remodel and addition project transforms a plain stucco box into an open plan craftsman cottage. This small house on a tiny lot reaches out and up to provide more living space within the tight constraints of very restrictive zoning requirements.
You can see by the plan diagrams to the right that the building footprint was increased by only 164 square feet. The improvement was quite dramatic, however, as the volume of the house increased to allow in more light and air. A loft space and attic were also designed into the solution to provide more living and storage areas. |
