When I started my family history research in 1990, I knew very little of my roots. Every bit of information, always maybe the last I thing I would learn, was so precious. I still feel that way after all this time, even though I have accumulated a database of over 142,000 individuals in my genealogy database and have worked some lines back over 40 generations. Genealogy is fun. Dig and you can find a wealth of information about your ancestors. Mom was born in the border town Roma, Texas, Dad in a small place south of the border named Rancho de las Tortillas in Tamaulipas. Their parents were born in the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon. Earlier generations lived in Coahuila, Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Galica, Mexico City, Spain and even Africa. Some were indigenous while most were from Spain. Some had their roots as Sephardic Jews (Marranos) who became New Christians "Conversos". Andres Tapia fought with Cortez. Many were soldiers who fought in the Grad Chichimeca War. Some were captains and generals. Alberto del Canto was the founder of Saltillo. Diego Montemayor was the founder of Monterrey. Jose Felipe Arizmendez and his wife Maria Irene Santos were mulattos. This site has links only to the first twelve generations. That should be enough to allow just about every Hispanic with roots in the Mexican States of Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon and Coahuila to find a common ancestor with me. I hope you get as much satisfaction doing your research as I have doing mine.
The ancestry report uses 'Ahnentafel' numbering. This means that the numbers for a person's parents will be twice as large as that person's number. For example, if a woman's number is 15, her father will be number 30, and her mother will be 31. Her child will be number 7.
