What is the Temple CPR Task Force?

The Temple CPR Task Force was formed in early 2007 as a coalition of community organizations all of which have a strong desire to increase the alarmingly low 6% survival rate for Sudden Cardiac Arrest victims in the Temple community and surrounding area. It is organized in partnership with the Temple Public Safety Advisory Board---a volunteer organization appointed by the Temple City Council.

The American Heart Association in conjunction with Laerdal Medical has developed a CPR training kit, CPR for Family & Friends. Families can learn bystander CPR at home in under 30 minutes using the kit. The kit contains an inflatable manikin, a training DVD, and an easy to use workbook. Bystander CPR can be applied by persons witnessing a cardiac event to sustain blood flow to the brain until 911 responders arrive. Without CPR and defibrillation, a victim will go brain dead in 4-6 minutes.

The focus of the CPR Task Force is to make the at home CPR kits available to Temple families at a substantially low cost and to empower 911 to be able to provide the location of the nearest defibrillator to the person calling in the event.
