About Miss Tessie: She was a very willful and affectionate girl. She had an incredibly strong maternal instinct, was very prey driven and bright. She did things only on her own terms, however. She learned to swim and retrieve birds at 4 years of age. She won her class in Open Agility at the Poodle Club of America National Specialty in 1999. Tessie has been featured in AKC Afield, Retriever Journal, Gun Dog, and Poodles (the Dog Fancy publication from 1999). ( 5/19/1992-5/29/2007) I lost Tessie at 15+ years of age the end of May, 2007, to a stroke. It nearly killed me to lose this wonderful girl as she had been my nearly constant companion for each of those 15 years. I knew that she was very dependent on me but I had no idea how very dependent I was on her! I must keep in mind that when we share our lives with one of these wonderful creatures that in the "best of all possible worlds" we will outlive this animal and that each life that we are so privileged to share makes us a better owner for the next one.
