This is my letter to the World
That never wrote to Me -
The simple News that Nature told -
With tender Majesty

Her Message is committed
To Hands I cannot see -
For love of Her - Sweet - countrymen -
Judge tenderly - of Me

1862 Emily Dickinson

Experimenting with various media, led me to a creative voice in oil painting.  The colors are deep and expressive and the longer drying time allows me to study and reflect on a subject more intensively.

I try to acknowledge the beauty of the subject matter itself by using a detailed handwriting and a glazing technique.  The glazes are transparent layers of oil paint on top of an underpainting.  The light illuminating the painting goes through the transparent colors, reflects off the underpainting and comes back through the transparent layers, which creates a luminous and almost 3-dimensional effect.  The use of this classic technique enables me to "translate" my observations of modern life and nature.

As a child I was blessed with the encouragement of my parents.  They realized that people are more likely to be most successful in those things they enjoy doing best.   I loved drawing and painting and as I now strive to create artworks in my professional life, I will always be thankful for their support.

I hope you will enjoy my "Impressions in Oil"...
