"Thou art my hiding place; Thou dost preserve me from trouble; Thou dost surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah." Psalm 32:7 NAS
Do you ever feel as though you and King David would have been close friends? I like David because through the Psalms you see a man, who thinks, feels and struggles like we do. Life can at times make us feel like running and hiding in a closet.
Where do we run when the times get tough? Where do we find refuge when the fires of life rage against us? Where do we run when sin gets it's way in our lives? Sometimes we too allow our flesh to get the best of us and then we may even feel the guilt and failure factors.
Then we can feel as though we cannot run to the one who died for that sin in the first place. Here we see the very thing the Lord Jesus Christ is to us. First He is our hiding place. He is a place where we can seek shelter and refuge.
We can seek His hiding place even if we have just sinned again in that same sin area of our lives that seems to be a constant struggle. We need to again go back to the facts of His word. The enemy wants to keep you walking in the guilt and shame because he knows it will keep you trying to hide from the Lord instead of hiding in the Lord.
The word for 'hiding place' in the Hebrew is cether (say'-ther)and has the meaning of a cover (in a good or a bad, a literal or a figurative sense. The KJV usage is backbiting, covering, covert, privily, protection and secret, place (1).
It comes from the original meaning to hide in a literal or figurative sense. Also it is a concealing or to make something secret. All this gives us a neat picture of how the Lord conceals us and He becomes that hiding place for us. It is in Him that we find refuge when we have even given into the temptation of sin.
King David found Himself in this place and even he had to realize that the Lord was waiting for a contrite heart before Him. In this same chapter we see a few verses back when David struggled with confessing his sins to God. Then he acknowledges His sin before the Lord and finds the hiding place. There is no place like being in the secret place of the Lord.
Never believe the lies of the enemy. Always know that you can always run to the hiding place of the Lord no matter what. Always, always, always know the facts: Nothing can separate you from the Love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:38-39). Have a blessed day and run to Him.
In His Love,
Adam
