"In those days there was no king in Israel; every man did what was right in his own eyes." Judges 17:6 NAS

The end statement of this verse is a perfect picture of the present day. Does it seem to you that the state of the country and world are getting worse and worse and worse each and every day? It is depressing to even turn on the nightly evening 'News' only to find ourselves facing some new horrific crimes or immoral acts being reported on.

The book of Judges is somewhat an exact picture of today and recent years for our world. This verse may have been written about 1020 BC and surely enough when the Israelites took their eyes off of the Lord and His commandments they drifted away into idolatry, harlotry and immorality.

When there was no king they did what was right in their own eyes. Today that is the motto of our day, "Me and my way or you and the highway." It's all about my truth and what I what believe. In America we are seeing the results today of decisions made in 1962 when they started taking out the King of kings from our schools.

Now instead of a factual truth we have a relative truth. Even the most educated people believe that whatever you believe is true. It is as crazy as if I said, "I believe I can fly and that is my truth."

Even in the Christian realm large groups are taking on their own stake of truth by distorting the very truth of God's word to fit it to their insane ideas of what is right. What a sad day we live in. People truly do what is right in their own eyes.

One thing we can say is that it is not a new idealism of truth that has taken root in our day. It has been this way from the Garden of Eden. There is only one way to know if something is right and it certainly is not what we think is true.

Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life…” The only way we can know what is right is to know the way. Jesus is the way to what is right. No other way will bring us to know what is truth.

We are a part of the way that is right because we have received Him into our hearts as Savior. In the book of Acts the early Christians were called those who were belonging to the Way (Acts 9:2).

We are called to do what is right in the eyes of Christ. In Judges they had no king, but we have the true King of glory. Praise Him that you have been called and chosen to be a part of the Way and know the truth.

If ever asked you can proclaim as Paul, "But this I admit to you, that according to the Way which they call a sect I do serve the God of our fathers (Acts 24:13-14 NAS).” You serve what is truly right in His eyes. week in His love.
