“…The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5 NAS
We have been focusing on the effects of Christ’s atoning sacrifice on the cross and what He had gone through as the suffering Servant. Today the thought to focus on is that we have been healed. We have been completely heart healed because of Jesus Christ. When we think of healing we usually think of physical healing.
Here in this verse we see that our well-being or in other words our peace, our safety, our happiness and our everything comes from what took place by the torturous beatings and crucifixion of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on behalf of us.
For us to be brought to proper justice and come to terms with our sins and be at peace with God according to His law and perfect righteousness we deserved the full wrath of His chastisement upon our lives. Our well-being depended upon it and the sad fact of the matter is that the end result would not have been very pretty.
We needed to be healed and made right again. We had a sickness or a heart disease that was eternally terminal. So many today have this eternal terminal sickness. The disease is called sin. It is a killer of the soul, as we all know. Sin eats the cells of our spiritual heart and in the end it kills us.
We the redeemed of the Lord have been cured from the ravaging end results of sin. Our hearts have been healed and restored to full health with the power of Jesus Christ living resident in our hearts. This is something we can continually rejoice in and are able have a thankful heart over.
Even if our entire life seems to be falling apart and it doesn’t seem to be getting much better, we have something to be thankful for at all times. We have been healed and made whole before our awesome God and lover of our souls.
The word ‘healed’ in the Hebrew has a neat meaning. The word healed is rapha' (raw-faw') or raphah (raw-faw') and means to mend (by stitching), i.e. (figuratively) to cure. KJV usage is to (cause to) heal, physician, repair and make whole (1).
Isn’t it a good feeling to know you have been all stitched up and your broken sin diseased heart has been mended up! By His stripes we have been healed and set free and we need to remember that at all times.
We should not so easily forget that we have been redeemed and in that is the fact that we have been permanently made whole through our standing in Christ. This means we stand secure on Romans 8:38-39 always. “…No created thing shall separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
It is these facts that we need to remember through scripture daily. Also it helps us understand those who need a heart healing in the first place. That is, those we interact with that so desperately need Jesus to come into their lives and save them. Keep praying for them.
Have a wonderful day in the Lord’s loving presence.
Adam
