"He was Crushed"
2/19/2004

“But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed." Isaiah 53:5

What kind of thoughts do you get when you think about Jesus being pierced for you? He was truly pierced or wounded for all our transgressions. Even greater than that is the fact that had it been for only one sin, His grace would still have been poured out and His hands and heart still pierced.

Our Savior Jesus Christ was pierced for a moment of time determined by the Father as the fullness of time (Gal 4:4, Eph 1:10). It was perfectly orchestrated as only God could have done it. Now not only was God the Son pierced for a moment of time to meet the qualifications for our sins, but He Himself pierced through the darkness for all eternity rendering satan as defeated.

In 1 Peter 3:18-19 it says, “For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, in order that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; in which also He went and made proclamation to the spirits now in prison.”

He was pierced through once and for all to bring us to the Father as glorified (Rom. 8:30). He made us alive to Christ and dead to sin. Do you live as Romans 6:11 instructs us when it says, “Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus?”

Are you walking today as a though you have been healed, saved and secured for all eternity? Are you living as a redeemed child of the King or as a slave of the enemy? We are to live as ones that are dead to sin because He became sin on our behalf so we would be healed and walk in the freedom of the grace of Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 2:24 says, “…He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.” Since He was crushed for our iniquities we have been completely healed. We have been freed from the power of death (2 Cor. 15:54-58).

How wonderful it is to ponder what our heavenly Father accomplished for us through His beloved Son. It is encouraging to know that on the rough days of this life Christ knows more than any other what it means to suffer and have great sorrow. He also knows what it means to have agonizing physical pain. He knows what it means to be completely crushed.

What do you imagine it means to be crushed for our iniquities? The word ‘crushed’ in the Hebrew gives us a pretty good picture. The word crushed in Hebrew is daka' (daw-kaw') and means to crumble; transitively, to bruise (literally or figuratively). The KJV usage is to beat to pieces, break (in pieces), bruise, contrite, crush, destroy, humble, oppress, and smite (1).

Does that give you a vivid image of what He went through so we could become the righteousness of God (2 Cor. 5:21)? He was chastened and crushed then dead and buried. But the story doesn’t end there. He was resurrected and broke the chains of sin and death.

He did this for you. He did this so that we who believe could become His children and so that He could bestow upon us a peace that cannot be comprehended. Are you walking in that peace for today? Are you walking as a healed child of God even in the midst of trials?

This doesn’t mean we will be healed from every disease, but it means our hearts will be healed forever from the disease of sin, which is eternal death and separation. Praise Him for His goodness and His plan for you in this new day.

Heart Healed Forever,
Adam

-Remember Revelation 1:17-19 which says, “Do not be afraid; I am the first and the last, and the living One; and I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and of Hades.

It is my prayer that you would be encouraged in your day-to-day walk and that you would be in the word everyday.
