"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Thy sight, O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer." Psalms 19:14 NAS
How sweet it is to spend time with the Lord. I am not talking about the five minutes before grabbing that coffee mug and running off to work. This is real devotional time with the Lord. This is where you set aside time to just speak to the Lord on His terms to His glory.
This is the time that you fix the eyes of your heart upon His wonderful grace and mighty presence, seeking to hear from Him through His word. We all go through times when it seems like our devotional time with the Lord is like a drive-thru restaurant. Our prayers can seem like we are rambling off a fast food order for our day ahead.
"Welcome to 'God's Presence', may I take your order?" "Yes, I would like a large order of Grace with extra Peace. Oh could you make that a combo meal and super size it with Love and Joy!! I would also like a side of the "Armor of God" to stand firm therefore. I will need lots of Shield of Faith to go with that. Please give me a large cup of Joy on the side easy tribulation though, thanks. Oh, Oh, Oh -Please make that order of Grace with heavy Patients." "Ok your total is...absolutely nothing, please drive forward to the window of New Mercies."
We miss something when we take for granite this salvation we have and not give the time the Lord deserves. This verse gives us an example of how our hearts should desire to be when we come to the table of the Lord.
It says, "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Thy sight..." If your anything like me your words may be the very thing that gets you into trouble in this life. When we come into the Lord's presence we desire that our words would be acceptable to Him as a fragrant aroma.
This really means to bless and glorify the heart of God. That is our hearts desire right? We want to delight the Lord's heart as we bring a heart of worship to Him. This means that our entire prayer time isn't about us and our problems. Rather it is about Him and His glory.
We come before Him recognizing that He is God and we should order our hearts aright before Him, as He deserves nothing less than the best from us. This may start by praying the last part of 2 Corinthians 10:5 which says, "...we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ."
Sometimes we need to just slow down and sit quiet before Him and simply meditate on Him and Him alone. The word 'heart' here in the Hebrew is leb (labe) and means the heart; also used (figuratively) very widely for the feelings, the will and even the intellect; likewise for the centre of anything (1).
It comes with the meaning of being the most interior organ. Speaking in terms of our feelings, will and the intellect it the most interior place we can be with a truly unexplainable intimacy when our hearts beat as one with the Father’s.
This is what it means to be truly acceptable. We are always acceptable in His sight because of Christ's imputed righteousness to our account. Even more so when we are walking in that close intimate place of His will. We bring Him utter delight when our hearts are aligned with His will.
Today bring Him the simplest of things. That is a surrendered and contrite heart. Give Him more than a drive-thru order today. Enjoy a sit down dinner with the Lord. Enjoy a hearty helping of His grace and presence to start your day off right. You will be so blessed, GUARANTEED!
Always Acceptable, Always,
Adam
