"Declaring the end from the beginning And from ancient times things which have not been done, Saying, 'My purpose will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure'” Isaiah 46:10 NAS
Here we see that the Lord does what He does so that His purpose's are established for His good pleasure. God is so awesome in power that He declares the future to us even before it happens. We know that the Sovereign God of the universe is the only one who could have declared this verse to God's people over about 2700 to 2900 years ago.
What is His good pleasure anyway? Do you know for sure what His good pleasure is? We are told in scripture that His good pleasure is in His Son. In Colossians 1:19-20 it says, "For it was the Father's good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross; through Him, I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven."
This promise was finalized 400 to 600 years after this verse when the fulfillment of God's good pleasure was crucified on a cross. His purpose was established forever through His Son Jesus Christ. In Ephesians 1:9 it says, "He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him." The Father's purpose was in the price of His purchase.
The Father Himself said, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased (Matt 3:17)." This means that ultimately His good pleasure is you. You were the joy set before Him to endure the cross. He chose you before the foundation of the world and knew that by the kind intention of His will that He would establish you to be in His son for eternity (Eph 1:4). Think about that for a minute.
His purpose was for you and I am to come to repentance and receive complete and total forgiveness of all our sins. We were the entire reason that His good pleasure was sent to the cross to endure an agonizing death. That should make you want to drop to your knees and rejoice with a humble heart before the mighty presence of God who was so full of kindness that He spared us by shedding His own blood (Acts 20:28).
We know that "...it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure (Phil 2:13)." We are here for His good pleasure and we are pleasing to Him because we are in His Son. His Son was His good pleasure making us His good pleasure by making us His sons and daughters. What an encouraging thing to know that we are His good pleasure and He delights in us. His thoughts toward us out number the sand (Ps 139:18-19).
In Him, By Him and Through Him,
Adam
It is my prayer that you would be encouraged in your day-to-day walk and that you would be in the word everyday.
