"For the eyes of the LORD move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His..." 2 Chronicles 16:9 NAS
Here we have and awesome promise as servants of the most high God. He moves to and fro throughout the earth seeking those who respond to His calling. He promises to support those who serve Him. He is looking for men and women who are completely His. When we respond to the call to serve in whatever capacity such as being an usher, working in children’s ministry or going to the mission field as a missionary it means we are walking in His will. It shows that our heart is hearing Him and responding to His call.
The best thing about this verse is that the eyes of the Lord are always on those who server Him. In fact He never forgets our service or the sacrifices we make for Him. He loves it when we serve Him and step out of our comfort zone. Whether it ‘s giving someone a glass of water, helping someone move or going to a foreign land to spread the gospel: To God it is the heart of the matter. It is having the heart of Jesus in whatever we do. He is looking for available hearts.
He's looking for us to say as Isaiah, "Here I am, send me" or stepping up as Nehemiah to survey and rebuild the broken walls of the hearts of others (Is 6:8, Neh 2:11-13). We do this of course by the sustaining power of the Holy Spirit. So the key of this heart for service is a heart that is completely His. The heavenly Father is looking for hearts that are fully committed to Him. Too often though we end up on the sidelines.
We become bench Christians or pew Christians. The Lord wants us fully sold out for Jesus. We should desire to be as Paul when he wrote 2 Corinthians 2:2, "For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified." Remember, this about those who hearts are completely His. These are hearts that are completely unashamed as Paul wrote; "I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to every one who believes... (Rom 1:16)."
The NIV says this verse in this way: "For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him." Are you fully committed to Him? There are many in this world that profess to be fully committed to the Lord. Yet the world is so full of fakes and phonies it seems. People professing to be servants yet so full of themselves and their own agenda. They may deceive many and thankfully God sees right through them. God knows those who are completely His.
Serving can have two effects on our hearts. It can ripen them and be sweet tasting to the Lord or it can rot them into hardened unusable fruit. This all depends are whether we are fully committed servants or just wishy-washy in the Lord. The determination is whether we are walking according to the Spirit or according to the flesh.
A fully committed heart isn’t always the easy road. In fact it can be a very difficult road filled with many hardships. At the end though we will be able to say as Paul wrote, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith (2 Tim 4:7).”
In His Wonderful Name,
Adam
