"Lift up your eyes on high..."
04/26/2003

"Lift up your eyes on high And see who has created these stars, The One who leads forth their host by number, He calls them all by name; Because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power Not one of them is missing." Isaiah 40:26 NAS

Are you down trodden today? Has life beat against you like the waves of the ocean crashing against shore. Do you ever feel like a lonely star in the sky? Stars look lonely don't they? Well here in this verse we are told, "Lift up your eyes on high And see who has created these stars..." I would imagine if the stars could look down on us they would see a lot of lonely people amongst the billions of people here on this planet.

Ever try to count the stars in the sky? That's an impossible task for anyone to complete. It would be like trying to count the hairs on your head. There is one who knows the number of both of these though. That is God and He knows how many stars there are. He knows how many hairs there are on everyone's head. He knows the number of grains of sand from every beach. He knows the exact number of gallons of water there are in the ocean.

He also knows how much total rain has ever been rained down on the earth. He knows every aspect of your life. He knows all your hurts and burdens. He knows exactly what brings you joy and happiness. He also knows all your desires and dreams. He knows how many years you will be in this sin-forsaken world. He knows exactly when you will be brought home to be with Him for eternity. He is all knowing all the time. He knows the stars by name it says. Even more so He knows you by name.

He leads by His comforting Holy Spirit to give us peace through whatever we go through. He meets us exactly where we are in life, in everyday, in every hour, in every minute and even of every second. We look to the heavens once in our day, but the Lord looks to our hearts every moment. It says at the end of this verse, "Because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power Not one of them is missing." That is exactly how we are to Him. Not one of us escapes His notice ever.

Not one of us is ever forgotten by Him. He is ever presently intimately aware of all that we think, feel, say and do. Do you ever feel like a falling star that is out of control, burning up in space? We can be confident to take our falling star hearts to Him and He will reset them into proper alignment for the space of life we exist in. Instead of burning up He re-lights the fire in our hearts. Maybe you have spent time away from Him? Maybe you feel distant from Him? Maybe you feel like a star that has lost its glow in a dark universe around you?

You might feel like David felt when He said, "My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God (Ps 84:2 KJV). Maybe you feel alone, desperate and that life has overtaken you? Always remember that you have not come up missing before the Lord. He knows you by name and has a plan for your life. Psalm 56:8 says, "Thou hast taken account of my wanderings..." Our Great God and Savior Jesus Christ is the lover of your soul.

So when you feel down, distant and discouraged then do what the prophet's of old did, "Lift up your eyes on high And see who has created these stars." It says in Psalm 121:1-2, "I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From whence shall my help come? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth." Again we see this in Psalm 123:1, "To Thee I lift up my eyes, O Thou who art enthroned in the heavens!" Look up to the heavens and put your eyes on Jesus. He is where our strength comes from. It is an awesome amazement to look up at those stars in the sky and think on the greatness of His might and the strength of His power.

That very strength indwells us and enables us to be filled with the joy of the Lord in turbulent times. It allows us to rejoice in calm times. It allows us to rest and recover from long days. It gives us patients to persevere under extreme trial. It also lights us up as a star in this dark world to shine the love of Christ. Our hope is to shine the love of Jesus even when our world seems dark and dim.

Remember His power is perfected in weakness (2 Cor 12:9). His light shines brightest during the darkest of times. Be encouraged today by looking up to the heavens where our help and strength comes from.

In Him and Known by Name,
Adam

It is my prayer that you would be encouraged in your day-to-day walk and that you would be in the word everyday.
