"Trust in the LORD forever, For in GOD the LORD, we have an everlasting Rock." Isaiah 26:4 NAS
Trust in the Lord forever. We trust in the Lord and therefore have perfect peace or peace, peace. In the last couple of devotionals we talked about the steadfast of mind. The reason we are "the steadfast of mind" is shown at the end of the last verse. "...Because he trusts in Thee (Is 26:3)." Since we do trust in Him we need to remember that we trust in Him forever. The Lord is the only one that we can truly trust in forever. Everything else is finite and has a timetable to it. Everything we put our trust in here on earth will eventually come to an end.
There is only one who we can place full trust and full assurance who will never ever let us down. There is only one that we can put our absolute confidence in and that is the Lord Jesus Christ. When we say full trust we mean without reserve, our full trust without worry or fret that we will be let down or hurt ever. We can trust in Him fully and eternally. In this world it doesn't take long to realize that trust is something that does not come easy.
It is not given too easy now a day's either. Trust is something we learn at an early age. When we are young we freely trust others. Then Through out our lives we learn who and what we can trust in. As we grow up we seem to change our ability to freely trust in people. Especially when we have been hurt or let down by those close to us. The world trusts no one yet trusts in everything outside of God. The world needs to trust in the Lord and Him alone.
Once we place our trust in Jesus we soon realize how faithful He is to complete the work He has started in us (Phil 1:6). When we come to the Lord with all that we are and trust it all to Him, we also soon realize that to trust we must surrender it all to Him. When we initially trust in Jesus as a new believer it is a simple trust and we may not even fully grasp the change our lives will take. Even the salvation prayer is simple. "I trust in Jesus and believe in Him as my Savior." we might say. We make a simple profession of faith in the Son of God.
That simple faith turns into powerful trust in the Lord God our rock. What are you placing your trust in today? Is it that new car? Are you trusting in the money you have saved? Are you trusting in your friends? Are you trusting in your place of employment? Do you ever get off course by placing too much trust in the things of this world? We can easily take our eyes off the trustee of our lives. This can be especially true if we do not place our hurting hearts on Jesus. We may become distraught and look to man to put our Trust in for help that only comes from the Father.
Psalm 146:3-5 says, "Do not trust in princes, In mortal man, in whom there is no salvation. His spirit departs, he returns to the earth; In that very day his thoughts perish. How blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, Whose hope is in the LORD his God." Now we do need to place a certain amount of trust in people and things. Humanly speaking we must give full trust to our spouses. Without trust in a marriage there is no foundation. So we do actually trust in those we love, but it is not the same eternal trust we have in Christ.
As our children grow we give them more and more trust. We teach them to be trust worthy. We trust in family and friends. In reality though it is a limited trust. That same trust we give can very easily be taken away. We will be hurt and disappointed by all those we put our trust in at one
time or another. It could be as simple as trusting that someone is going to be there when you need them the most and they are no where to be found. We can be sure that Jesus is always here for us wherever and whenever we call on His name.
Have you ever met someone who trusts no one? They are very leery of even granting a person the ability to be trust-worthy. It is this kind of heart that will find it very hard to trust fully in the Lord. Their faulty trust will fail them. When the Lord does not answer their prayers in a timely fashion, the response is: "See I trusted God and even He let me down." It is a very sad state of affairs when we don't trust fully in God. There have been many times when I was fretting about how we would cover our bills. When we fret and worry we are saying in essence, "Father I don't trust you!" Luckily He knows everything about us and we are no surprise to Him.
Oh how longsuffering the Lord is with us. In the times when I am fretting He waits patiently for me to bring my full hands to Him, turn them over and lay it on His hands. He waits for us to trust Him. When that occurs He then can work in our lives the way He wants to. We come to Him and then we get to walk away empty handed. What do I mean by that? We take the heavy burdens in our hands and leave them on His. He leaves us empty-handed and carries the entire load. That is the best time to be left empty handed isn't it?
It is in the trusting Him completely that He shows us Himself very powerfully. He shows that He is in full control and all we have to do is be in full trust. Today remind yourself that you can fully trust in Him. It is because we trust in Him that we become steadfast of mind and have that peace, peace or perfect peace that surpasses understanding. How sweet it is to sit back and watch how He is going to provide for us. It is also neat watch Him work out His will and purpose in our lives. We can trust Him forever. Try to imagine how long forever is. Overwhelmed yet? It is almost overwhelming to know that God is forever and great to know we can trust in Him forever.
We will spend forever with Him. We can trust Him in this very hour to accomplish His good pleasure in our lives. Be blessed and tell the Lord today, "Oh my Lord, I trust in You. I trust fully in You and You alone. You are my God and my Lord, forever you love me and forever I trust in You." Have a great weekend in His perfect peace.
In Christ's Name,
Adam
It is my prayer that you would be encouraged in your day-to-day walk and that you would be in the word everyday.
