"I saw the Lord..."
01/21/2003

"In the year of King, Uzziah's death, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple. Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings; with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called out to another and said, "Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory."

Isaiah 6:1-3 NAS

Imagine seeing a glimpse of the most high God. Imagine just getting a peak at the throne of God. Are you imagining it yet? Take a moment and imagine seeing His splendor and glory. Imagine with your finite mind what being in His very presence would be like. Oh how awesome it would be, so lofty and exalted it would show forth. It would shine with the radiance of His glory. The commentaries for this verse say this might have been a vision of the Messiah, Jesus.

Isaiah sees a vision here and how I can not even imagine seeing this vision. I think it would be too much to bear. In the reality of who we are as His creation with limits and boundaries we can not even conceive a true idea of what it would be like to stand right in front of the power and presence of God. In 2 Corinthians 2:9 it says, "but just as it is written, "Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, And which have not entered the heart of man, All that God has prepared for those who love Him."

Our God, our great God who created the heavens and the earth by simply speaking it into existence shows Himself to Isaiah in a powerful way. He showed us Himself in a powerful way also. He sent us His only begotten Son. Jesus was still God Himself and was the creator of all things, yet He surrendered the full glory of His presence for a little while so that at the proper time we might lay our eyes on Him, touch Him and be healed by Him (Hebrews 2:7-9, 1 Tim 2:6).

He took on the flesh of man and became the incarnate Christ. Had He come in His full glory no man would have been able to even come close to Him or see Him. He in coming in the flesh in no way gave up His power as God or His deity and at anytime could have shown His full glory for that is exactly what God is and He does not change. The full presence of God's radiance and glory no man has seen. John 1:18 says, "No man has seen God at any time; the only begotten God, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him."

In 1 Timothy 6:15-16 it says, "He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords; who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light; whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen." So imagine being Isaiah for a minute and seeing this vision. Do you think you would drop to your knees in awe and be overwhelmed with the glory of His site that He was able to see? Maybe it was just the back of the throne of God that He saw similar to what Moses had seen of God.

I say that not as anything more than an imaginative thought. Remember Moses was in the very presence of God and yet could not see His face. "Then Moses said, "I pray Thee, show me Thy glory!" And He said, "I Myself will make all My goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of the LORD before you; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show compassion on whom I will show compassion." But He said, "You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live! (Ex 33:18-20)"

It is neat to sit and imagine what it will be like to be in His very presence. Some day we will stand in His presence. That day could be tomorrow or it could be many, many years from now. Because of Christ some day we will see Him in all His glory. That is much more desirable than anything here on earth can offer to us (2 Cor 5:8). Imagine that day when He will welcome us into His very presence. We will spend eternity with Him and will spend all our time worshipping Him. How great and marvelous that day will be. Imagine it, are you? It is too much to conceive isn’t it? Have a mighty and powerful week in His presence.

Because of Unmerited Favor,
Adam

It is my prayer that you would be encouraged in your day-to-day walk and that you would be in the word everyday.
